You’re Cordially Invited is a 2025 wedding comedy starring Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon as relatives whose families discover they have booked the same venue for the same weekend. Before watching, know the setup, cast, release options, content rating, runtime discrepancy and the mixed reception.
1. What is You’re Cordially Invited about?
Two wedding parties arrive to find that their celebrations have been double-booked at one venue. Will Ferrell plays Jim, a father arranging a destination wedding for his daughter, Jenni (Geraldine Viswanathan). Reese Witherspoon is Margot, sister of bride-to-be Neve (Meredith Hagner). The two clash as they try to protect their families’ plans. The Prime Video listing describes the central conflict; The Associated Press adds that Jim chose a small Georgia island where he and his late wife married, while Margot is a high-powered reality-TV executive.

3. When did it come out, and where can you watch it?
Prime Video announced a January 30, 2025 release, and the New Zealand Classification Office lists that date for New Zealand as well. The current US Prime Video title page offers streaming, UHD rental and UHD purchase, and lists versions with American Sign Language and British Sign Language interpretation. Availability and options vary by territory and can change; check the Prime Video title page for current US access.
4. Is You’re Cordially Invited rated R?
Yes. The US Prime Video listing labels the film R. The Associated Press reports the MPA reason as “language throughout and some sexual references.” Content labels differ by territory: the New Zealand Classification Office lists offensive language, violence, sexual themes and adult themes, and describes frequent strong language, a punch and a brief alligator-bite injury with some blood, plus passing sexual references. That office notes Prime Video self-rated the film in New Zealand. Apple TV’s US entry also displays R alongside a separate 15+ advisory. These are platform- and region-specific labels, not one universal classification.
5. How long is the movie?
Plan for about 1 hour 50 minutes. Listings differ: Prime Video and the New Zealand Classification Office give 111 minutes (1 hour 51 minutes), while The Associated Press reports 109 minutes and Apple TV lists 1 hour 49 minutes. The exact figure depends on which listing you consult.
6. What have critics and viewers thought?
Reception has been mixed in the available snapshots. Rotten Tomatoes showed a 49% Tomatometer from 104 reviews and a 33% Popcornmeter from 1,000+ ratings on its 2026 page; those figures can change. Its critics’ consensus says Ferrell and Witherspoon work well as “catty combatants,” but faults tired set pieces and the romantic subplot. Separately, Associated Press critic Jake Coyle gave the film 2.5 out of 4 stars. He found the pairing workable and Ferrell compelling, while wishing the film devoted more energy to a major comic set piece instead of the leads discussing their hang-ups. Neither the scores nor one review predicts how an individual viewer will respond.

7. What kind of comedy is it, and who might enjoy it?
The central appeal is the friction between two wedding parties and two leads playing adversaries. Expect broad wedding chaos, bickering and slapstick alongside relationship-focused comedy. The critical response suggests the balance does not work equally well for everyone: Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus objects to familiar set pieces and the romantic subplot, while Coyle’s review wanted a bigger comic payoff.
It is a better fit for viewers who enjoy Ferrell and Witherspoon’s comic pairing and are comfortable with adult language and references than for anyone seeking a family-friendly wedding movie or a consistently successful romantic comedy.
Rank #4
8. Is You’re Cordially Invited worth watching?
Consider it if the cast and the premise of competing wedding parties sound fun to you, and its R-rated content is appropriate for your viewing group. The mixed critical and audience-score snapshots make it a qualified pick rather than a safe bet for every comedy fan.
