The Naked Gun reboot opened in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2025, and premiered on Paramount+ in the United States and Canada on September 30, 2025. Liam Neeson stars as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of Leslie Nielsen’s original character. Here’s the release information, cast, official trailer and franchise context.
When did The Naked Gun reboot come out?
Paramount lists the film’s U.S. theatrical premiere as August 1, 2025, the same date promoted in its trailer campaign. Paramount’s film page and official trailer identify the theatrical release.
Where can you stream The Naked Gun?
Paramount announced that the film would begin streaming on Paramount+ on September 30, 2025, in the United States and Canada. The Paramount+ title page is the destination for checking availability. The announcement specifies those two countries; it does not establish a streaming date for other regions.

Paramount+ describes the film as a 2025 PG-13 comedy with an approximate runtime of 1 hour 25 minutes. Runtime and rating are useful viewing details, but regional catalog availability can differ.

What is the story setup?
The premise carries the Police Squad lineage forward: Frank Drebin Jr. follows his father into the police force. Paramount’s trailer description puts it this way: “Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. (Liam Neeson) follows in his father’s footsteps in THE NAKED GUN.”

How does the reboot connect to the original films?
The new film continues the character lineage with Frank Drebin Jr., while the original trilogy starred Leslie Nielsen as Frank Drebin. Paramount’s announcement groups the reboot with The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear and Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult.
The reboot has a different creative team and supporting cast: Schaffer directs, with Neeson leading a cast that includes Anderson, Hauser and Pounder. The original trilogy belongs to Nielsen’s era of the character; the new entry’s defining connection is the next-generation Drebin at its center.
