The backlash centered on “Give the World Away,” the penultimate episode of Yellowstone Season 5. Some viewers objected that Taylor Sheridan’s ranch hand Travis Wheatley received too much attention when they wanted the story to focus on the Duttons. The response was mixed, however, and the available coverage does not show how many viewers shared that criticism.
What happened in “Give the World Away”?
In the episode, Sheridan—the creator of Yellowstone—returns as Travis Wheatley, a ranch hand and horse trainer. His scenes include a strip-poker game with Beth Dutton and the introduction of Sadie, played by model Bella Hadid, as Travis’s girlfriend. The episode aired in December 2024 and was the season’s penultimate installment. ComingSoon’s December 9, 2024 report describes the scenes and the criticism they prompted.
Why did some viewers object to Sheridan’s cameo?
The complaint described in contemporaneous coverage was about narrative priority: with the season nearing its conclusion, some viewers wanted more time devoted to the Dutton family and less to Travis. They saw his scenes as distracting from the central conflict, or as an especially prominent showcase for Sheridan’s character.
That is a judgment about how the episode used its time, not an established fact that the scenes were unnecessary. Paramount’s official “Stories from the Bunkhouse – Give the World Away” page says cast members discussed saying farewell to the Dutton Ranch and Jamie’s need to control the narrative. It offers episode context, but it is not a response to the criticism of Sheridan’s screen time.

How did Bella Hadid’s appearance add to the reaction?
Hadid’s guest role as Sadie made the casting an additional talking point. The Independent’s December 9, 2024 report reproduced social-media posts expressing surprise, including: “Watching Bella Hadid in an episode of #YellowstoneTV definitely wasn’t on my 2024 bingo card” and “The gasp I gasped when I saw Bella Hadid in the new Yellowstone ep.” Those examples illustrate surprise at the casting; they are not a representative survey of viewers.
Was the reaction unanimous?
No. ComingSoon’s report records criticism of the emphasis on Travis alongside viewers who enjoyed Sheridan’s performance or Hadid’s appearance. The two readings reflect different expectations: some viewers wanted the episode to reserve its attention for the Dutton story, while others found the scenes or guest casting entertaining.
