Deepa Gahlot’s review for Scroll.in, published 22 November 2024, finds the performances more persuasive than the increasingly convoluted plot.

What is the story about?
Picking up after the first season’s kidnapping cliffhanger, the season follows Vikrant as he tries to get free of Purva and reclaim the life he wants with Shikha. His plans are complicated by a kidnapping, ransom demands and a hunt, while Guru, a new character played by Gurmeet Choudhary, enters the conflict. Netflix’s trailer announcement frames the story around revenge, betrayal, obsession and survival.

The headline’s phrase “kinky love” is provocative shorthand for the show’s unusual obsession-driven setup, not a claim that the series is explicit. Netflix categorises it as crime, romance, mystery and thriller. The central reversal remains its hook: Purva pursues Vikrant, and her powerful gangster father gives her leverage over him.
Does the twist-heavy plot work?
Gahlot’s main reservation is that the sequel piles complications onto an already strained situation. Vikrant is pulled between his hatred of Purva and his feelings for Shikha, with the kidnapping, ransom and Guru’s intervention adding further turns. The pulpy momentum can still entertain, but the review argues that the plot becomes overworked—allowed to “simmer until it chars”—rather than sharpened by each new development.
That is the season’s central trade-off: viewers who enjoy escalating turns may find the story lively, while those who want a tightly controlled thriller may feel that the complications outrun their payoff. The review also finds the characters’ composure around graphic violence hard to believe, a problem that makes the excess feel less like cheeky pulp and more like a distraction.
How do the performances fare?
The cast is the review’s strongest asset. Tahir Raj Bhasin plays Vikrant as a man repeatedly losing control, leaning into his haplessness rather than making him an implausible action hero; that vulnerability can make him sympathetic. Shweta Tripathi brings steadiness to tense scenes, while Anchal Singh gives Purva both wickedness and courage. Gahlot sees Purva as more heroic here than in the first season.

What did other critics think?
Critical responses are mixed rather than unanimous. Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 2 page, accessed 8 October 2026, lists three critic reviews: Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express rates it 3/5 and notes its cliffhanger; Hindustan Times calls it a fast-paced thrill ride while observing that some of the novelty has faded; and Digital Mafia Talkies criticises plot holes, weak characters and a lack of an overarching theme.
Rank #4
The disagreement comes down to whether the escalating twists sustain momentum or create gaps, and whether the violence lands as effective pulp or gratuitous excess. Rotten Tomatoes shows fewer than 50 audience ratings on that page, too small a number to treat as broad audience consensus.

Gahlot notes loose threads that could leave room for a third season. That is not confirmation of a renewal: the available material does not establish that Season 3 has been commissioned. Viewers should expect some storylines to remain open rather than assume the season delivers a fully closed ending.
