Forrie J. Smith said he was removed from a flight in Houston after telling the crew he was uncomfortable sitting next to a masked passenger. That is Smith’s account of the incident; the airline’s explanation has not been independently established in the available contemporaneous reporting.
What Smith said happened
In a social-media video shared in March 2024, Smith said the incident took place in Houston and that he objected to sitting beside a passenger wearing a mask. The Independent quoted him saying, “I just told them I didn’t feel comfortable sitting next to somebody with a mask on.” Contemporary coverage described the event as having occurred over the weekend before publication.
Smith is known for playing Lloyd Pierce on Yellowstone, as reported by The Independent and KPRC Click2Houston.
What he said about drinking
Smith said he had been drinking while waiting at the airport for about three hours, but denied being drunk. The Independent reproduced his statement: “Yeah, I’ve been drinking – I’ve been sitting in the airport for three hours, yeah I’m drinking – but I ain’t drunk.” This is Smith’s account, not independent evidence of his condition.

Was intoxication the reason he was removed?
Smith said the crew considered him drunk and attributed his removal to that judgment. The contemporaneous reports reviewed do not include an airline or crew statement confirming that explanation, so it remains Smith’s description of the crew’s reasoning—not an independently established basis for the decision.
What is not confirmed
- The airline and flight number were not identified in the reviewed reports.
- No airline response or account from the masked passenger was included.
- The reports do not establish whether intoxication was the actual reason for Smith’s removal, whether he was rebooked, or how his travel ended.
- Nothing in the reporting establishes the passenger’s health or reason for wearing a mask, or that wearing one violated a rule.
What contemporary reports establish
The Independent published its account on March 26, 2024, and KPRC Click2Houston published its report on March 25, 2024. Both covered Smith’s account of the Houston incident; neither supplied independent confirmation from the airline of why he was removed.
