OBS Studio is the better starting point for most creators in India if they want a free, cross-platform encoder with flexible configuration. Choose XSplit Broadcaster if you use Windows and value its guided workflow or a specific premium feature enough to accept its free-tier limits or a paid license. Neither application guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 stream: your computer, power, internet route, settings and YouTube ingest connection all matter.
Which should you choose?
| Your situation | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You use macOS or Linux, or want to avoid a software license cost | OBS Studio | OBS documents support for Windows, macOS and Linux, and is free and open source. |
| You use Windows and prefer XSplit’s workflow or need a particular premium feature | XSplit Broadcaster | XSplit offers native platform integrations, custom RTMP and premium multistreaming, subject to its license terms. |
| Your priority is keeping a prerecorded YouTube stream running while your home computer is off | StreamNeo | It runs uploaded videos and playlists from the cloud, with one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps. |
That is a workflow and cost recommendation, not a claim that one encoder has better uptime. YouTube supports encoder-based continuous streams and lists XSplit Broadcaster as an encoder option; platform compatibility does not guarantee that a specific PC, app, power supply or Indian ISP connection will stay online.
How XSplit and OBS differ
Operating system and computer requirements
XSplit Broadcaster’s published requirements specify Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. XSplit Support lists a minimum second-generation Core i5 or equivalent, 8 GB RAM and a GeForce- or Radeon-class GPU with DirectX 10.1 or better. Its product page recommends a fourth-generation Core i5 for 720p and a fourth-generation Core i7 for 1080p. These are vendor-published baselines, not guarantees for every scene, encoder, concurrent workload or nonstop operating pattern.
OBS supports Windows, macOS and Linux. Its project warns: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” CPU demands vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate and scene complexity. Use the OBS Auto-Configuration Wizard as a starting point, then test the actual scenes and output on the computer you plan to leave running.

Cost, license and workflow
OBS is free and open source, without a watermark or commercial-use restriction according to its help portal. XSplit offers free and paid plans. Its product page says free streaming up to 720p is watermark-free and adds a logo above that resolution; XSplit Support lists a maximum of four scenes on its free license and other restrictions. Check current license terms and region-specific pricing before choosing: features and prices can change, and the free license may not suit a commercial stream.
XSplit markets native platform integrations, custom RTMP and premium multistreaming. OBS provides scene-based production and configurable audio and video settings. Decide based on the workflow and features you need; the available product information does not establish that either app is inherently more reliable for a 24/7 broadcast.

What 24/7 streaming requires beyond the encoder
YouTube Help describes both continuous and scheduled live streams and lists XSplit among encoder options. This establishes platform support for the use case, not protection from a local outage. The encoder sends video to YouTube; it does not provide your internet access, electricity or a guaranteed connection to YouTube’s ingest servers.
- A computer that can encode your scenes: minimum specifications are not a substitute for testing the resolution, frame rate, encoder and scene complexity you will use.
- Sustained upload capacity: advertised broadband speed or a short speed test does not establish that your connection can hold the chosen bitrate, especially during local congestion.
- Stable power and network: power cuts, router restarts, ISP interruptions, crashes and misconfiguration can all stop a stream. The reviewed sources do not establish India-wide reliability figures or a suitable backup runtime for your setup.
- A plan for stream continuity and archives: YouTube supports continuous streams, but a single uninterrupted broadcast is not necessarily the best choice for every channel’s archive, moderation or monetization goals.
Configure and validate a DIY stream
1. Confirm the YouTube live setup
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and select an encoder workflow. Use the stream key and server details shown in YouTube Studio in the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP fields. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Follow YouTube’s current live-streaming and video settings guidance for the resolution, frame rate, bitrate and keyframe interval you intend to use. These settings depend on the output you choose; do not treat an app’s hardware minimum or a connection speed as a recommended YouTube configuration.
- Check YouTube’s live status and ingest health after the encoder connects. A successful connection is not evidence that the stream will survive a long-duration run.
2. Set up the encoder for the machine you have
- OBS: run the Auto-Configuration Wizard, then verify the selected video output, encoder and audio devices. Build the scene you will actually broadcast, including any browser sources, overlays or media playback. Add only what the stream needs because scene complexity affects CPU demand.
- XSplit: confirm that your Windows version and hardware meet its published requirements. Choose the output settings and scene composition you intend to use, and check which features require a paid license.
- Set bitrate within the sustained upload capacity available to the streaming PC and within YouTube’s current guidance for the selected output. OBS troubleshooting guidance identifies an unstable route or bitrate beyond the connection’s capacity as common causes of dropped frames. Its suggested starting point of 75% of total upload speed is only a starting point, not a guarantee of stable performance.
- Where practical, connect the streaming PC to the router over Ethernet. OBS recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi may be unstable. A cable can reduce one source of variability, but cannot fix ISP congestion, power loss or an outage farther along the route.
3. Run a long-duration test before relying on it
- Run a private or otherwise appropriate test stream using the actual scenes, audio, output settings, computer and network you will use.
- Watch YouTube’s stream health and the encoder’s dropped-frame or connection indicators. If dropped frames occur, lower the bitrate to a level the connection can sustain and test again; also check Wi-Fi, router stability and the route to YouTube.
- Check for computer overload, overheating, media-source failures and audio or video drift over time. A brief successful test does not establish 24/7 readiness; make the test long enough to expose the conditions that matter for your setup.
- Decide how you will respond to a disconnect or power interruption. Neither XSplit’s nor OBS’s compatibility documentation promises automatic recovery in every failure scenario.
Troubleshooting common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Dropped frames or unstable stream health | Bitrate exceeds sustainable upload capacity, Wi-Fi instability or an unstable route to YouTube | Use wired Ethernet where possible, lower bitrate to fit measured sustained capacity and retest at the intended time and settings. |
| Encoder overload, stutter or a frozen scene | Computer cannot sustain the chosen encoder, resolution, frame rate or scene complexity | Check encoder and system load; simplify scenes or reduce output demands, then run another test on the same machine. |
| Encoder will not connect to YouTube | Incorrect stream key or server details, a changed key, account/live setup issue or connection failure | Confirm the current values in YouTube Studio, replace the key in the encoder if needed, and check YouTube’s live status before restarting. |
| Stream stops after a local interruption | Computer, router, ISP or power interruption; software may not reconnect as expected | Identify where the interruption occurred, restore the affected service and verify the encoder and YouTube health before assuming the broadcast resumed. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a prerecorded video or playlist playing continuously on YouTube, StreamNeo avoids leaving a computer and home connection running. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos in the cloud; it does not stream from a camera and it streams to YouTube only.

Streaming continuously does not grant rights to music, documentary footage or other material in a recording. Use content you own or have permission to broadcast, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies before building a channel around repeated or prerecorded material. A technically stable stream is separate from whether a channel or its content meets YouTube’s rules. Use the copyright safety checklist before streaming uploaded material.

Cost and practical decision
With OBS, the software itself is free, but a DIY 24/7 setup still depends on the computer, internet service and power arrangement you supply. XSplit’s free and paid options have different feature and license limits; verify current terms for your region. For either desktop encoder, costs of hardware, connectivity or backup power depend on your actual setup, so there is no defensible India-wide total from the available figures.
If you want production control from a machine you already operate, start with OBS unless XSplit’s Windows workflow or a premium feature better fits your needs. If you want prerecorded content to keep looping without an always-on PC at home, consider StreamNeo instead. In every case, decide separately how the format serves your archive, moderation and monetization needs.
