Yes—eligible Xfinity customers can use the Xfinity Stream app on Apple TV. It provides access to live channels included in the customer’s service, Xfinity On Demand programming and supported DVR recordings. It is primarily designed for use on the subscriber’s in-home Xfinity network, and downloading the free app does not create an Xfinity TV subscription.
Despite headlines describing this as “now available,” Comcast originally launched Xfinity Stream for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD on June 30, 2022. The app remains available in 2026.
What Xfinity Stream does on Apple TV
The Xfinity Stream app brings several parts of an Xfinity TV subscription to compatible Apple TV devices:
- Live television from the channels included in your Xfinity package.
- Xfinity On Demand shows and movies.
- Supported DVR recordings.
- DVR recording management, where included with the service tier.
- Service-specific live and on-demand programming for eligible NOW TV, Instant TV, On Campus and internet customers.
The exact experience depends on your account, channel package, device, location and whether you are connected to your home Xfinity network. Xfinity does not promise that every channel or feature available through a set-top box will appear in every app context.

When did Xfinity Stream come to Apple TV?
Comcast announced the Apple TV version on June 30, 2022. This is therefore an ongoing compatibility option rather than a new 2026 launch. The current question is whether your Apple TV and Xfinity service qualify, and what the app can replace in your home.

Who can use the app?
Xfinity’s current guidance is aimed primarily at customers with qualifying Xfinity Internet and TV service. Features vary by account type:

| Xfinity On Campus | Access is subject to the program’s restrictions, including a one-stream limit. |
| Xfinity Internet only | May provide access to free live streaming channels and free on-demand programming, but not the full paid Xfinity TV lineup. |
An Apple TV, by itself, does not provide Xfinity channels. The app authenticates against the Xfinity ID associated with an eligible service.
Apple TV compatibility: check tvOS first
The most useful requirement is that the Apple TV must run tvOS 18 or later. Xfinity lists support for these hardware generations:
- Apple TV 4K (2021).
- Apple TV 4K (2017).
- Apple TV HD (2015).
Xfinity’s FAQ includes inconsistent model-year wording in one place, so the operating-system requirement is a safer test than relying on a model label. On the Apple TV, open Settings > System > About to check the installed tvOS version, then use Settings > System > Software Updates to look for an update.
If the device cannot update to tvOS 18, it cannot meet the current Apple TV requirement. In that case, use a supported Apple TV or another platform compatible with Xfinity Stream.

How to install and activate Xfinity Stream
- Make sure the Apple TV is connected to the internet. For the full in-home experience, connect it to the customer’s Xfinity home network.
- Sign in to an Apple account on the Apple TV so the App Store can be used.
- Open the App Store.
- Search for Xfinity Stream.
- Download and open the app.
- Select Sign in.
- Note the activation code shown on the Apple TV.
- Using a phone, tablet or computer, follow Xfinity’s activation flow and enter the code.
- Sign in with the Xfinity ID connected to the qualifying service.
- After activation, open Live TV, On Demand or DVR to browse the available content.
The app is free to download, but the download is not a TV subscription. Content access is included only with qualifying Xfinity service or eligible offerings.
Does it work away from home?
The Apple TV version is principally an in-home streaming experience. When the Apple TV is connected to the subscriber’s Xfinity home network, Xfinity says customers can access the relevant live lineup, On Demand catalog and supported DVR content.
Do not assume that moving the Apple TV to another internet connection will reproduce the same lineup. Out-of-home rights vary by program and service, and some content may be unavailable or restricted. Xfinity’s broader TV-app guidance explains that in-home and out-of-home viewing have different content rights.

How many devices can stream at once?
Xfinity’s Apple TV overview currently lists these concurrent-stream limits across the account’s supported devices:
- Xfinity X1: five concurrent streams.
- Xfinity Instant TV: two concurrent streams.
- Xfinity On Campus: one concurrent stream.
These limits apply across the account, not just to Apple TVs. If several household members are already watching on phones, tablets, computers or other supported devices, a new Apple TV stream may be refused.
Is 4K available?
Apple TV 4K hardware can display compatible content, but Xfinity does not deliver every channel or On Demand title in 4K. Xfinity’s current requirements page says Apple TV 4K viewing requires Xfinity Stream app version 1.10.0 or later, in addition to compatible programming and equipment.

Why channels or recordings may be missing
A channel is not in the guide
First check whether the channel is part of your paid package. Other explanations include being outside the home network, separate streaming rights, or having a service such as NOW TV, Instant TV, On Campus or internet-only access rather than a full Xfinity TV subscription.
Xfinity’s guidance generally ties in-home live access to the subscriber’s channel lineup; it does not mean every Xfinity channel is available to every account.
DVR recordings do not appear
- Confirm that you used the Xfinity ID associated with the recordings.
- Check whether your service includes DVR functionality.
- Verify that the recording has not expired or been deleted.
- Connect the Apple TV to the intended home Xfinity network.
- Check whether the account has reached its concurrent-stream limit.
DVR availability varies by service level even though the App Store listing advertises DVR access.

The app cannot be found
- Update tvOS from Settings > System > Software Updates.
- Check the Apple TV model and installed tvOS version.
- Restart the Apple TV.
- Search the App Store again for “Xfinity Stream.”
- If the device cannot run tvOS 18, use supported hardware.
App Store region or account configuration can also affect what appears, but compatibility is the first thing to check.
The activation code or sign-in fails
Check the Xfinity ID and password, confirm that the account has eligible service, and enter the code on a second device rather than trying to type it into the Apple TV. Also verify the Apple TV’s internet connection. Creating a new Xfinity account will not help if the intended subscription is attached to a different existing Xfinity ID.
Pay-per-view is a significant limitation
Xfinity’s Apple TV support documentation says pay-per-view events are unavailable in the Apple TV app. An event purchased through an Xfinity box should not be assumed to appear automatically in Xfinity Stream on Apple TV.
Customers who depend on pay-per-view access may need to keep using an Xfinity set-top box or use the event provider’s supported application.
Xfinity Stream versus an Xfinity cable box
Xfinity Stream is a good fit if you already pay for Xfinity TV, primarily watch at home, want to avoid moving a box between rooms, and prefer Apple TV as the interface for Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and other apps. It can also put Xfinity DVR recordings beside the rest of your streaming services.

An Xfinity box remains preferable if you need pay-per-view, rely on provider-controlled guide and box features, own an Apple TV that cannot run tvOS 18, or want the most traditional Xfinity experience.
The app may reduce the need for an additional box in a room, but it does not turn Xfinity TV into a free or standalone service.
Xfinity Stream versus other Apple TV options
YouTube TV
YouTube TV is a separate live-TV subscription with its own Apple TV app, cloud DVR and channel lineup. It is the clearer alternative for someone considering replacing Xfinity TV rather than simply watching an existing Xfinity subscription on another device.

YouTube TV’s promotional page lists a price of $67.99 per month for the first three months for new users, then $82.99 per month, with that offer shown as ending August 26, 2026. Apple TV subscription
Apple’s own subscription service is separate from both Apple TV hardware and Xfinity Stream. It focuses on Apple Originals and selected live sports, not a full cable-style lineup. Apple lists it at $12.99 per month after a seven-day trial at tv.apple.com.
Other live-TV apps
Sling TV, Hulu + Live TV, Fubo and DIRECTV STREAM are additional possibilities on Apple TV. Their suitability depends on local broadcast stations, sports networks, DVR rules, simultaneous streams and current pricing. They are independent subscriptions and do not expose the programming attached to an Xfinity account.
Should you buy an Apple TV for Xfinity Stream?
If your existing Apple TV supports tvOS 18, you may only need a software update and the free app. If you need hardware, Apple’s official buying page currently lists Apple TV 4K Wi-Fi at $129; confirm the live price at Apple.com.

Buying Apple TV hardware makes sense when you want one interface for Xfinity Stream and other streaming apps. It does not make sense as a way to obtain Xfinity channels without an eligible Xfinity service, or as a guaranteed way to eliminate the cost of Xfinity TV.
Bottom line
Xfinity Stream is available on Apple TV in 2026, but it is not a new launch and it is not a replacement for an Xfinity subscription. Eligible customers can watch their supported live channels, On Demand content and DVR recordings—primarily on their home Xfinity network—using an Apple TV running tvOS 18 or later. For existing Xfinity TV customers who want fewer boxes and a unified streaming interface, it is a useful option. For cord-cutters, pay-per-view viewers or anyone expecting the full lineup to work anywhere, an Xfinity box or a separate live-TV service may be a better fit.
