What is X about?
Set in 1979, X follows a small group of filmmakers who rent part of a rural Texas property to shoot an adult film. The crew hopes to complete the production quietly, but the property’s elderly owners discover the nature of the project. Their reaction transforms the remote location into a dangerous trap.
The film uses the filmmaking setup for more than a simple “movie within a movie” premise. The crew’s ambition, the isolation of the farm, the generational divide between the visitors and their hosts, and the tension surrounding the production all contribute to the horror. The result is a period slasher that combines sexual themes with escalating survival-horror danger.

DVD and Blu-ray
The film’s physical release followed in May 2022. A24 has directed shoppers to retailers including Amazon, Target, and Walmart for DVD and Blu-ray editions. If you collect modern horror films, a X Blu-ray is the more suitable option for a high-definition home collection; prices and stock can change.
A DVD edition is also available through retailer listings and may be the practical choice for viewers using a standard DVD player. Compare the format with your equipment before ordering, and verify the edition’s region compatibility when buying outside the United States.
For immediate home viewing, readers can also check whether it is currently possible to rent X on Amazon or purchase it digitally. The exact offer should be confirmed on the current listing because digital terms are not universal or permanent.
