WWE’s September 2024 announcement that Monday Night Raw would return to two hours was real—but it applied to the show’s final months on USA Network, not to a permanent Netflix format. Raw premiered on Netflix on January 6, 2025, and Netflix describes its length as variable. The bigger change was that Raw no longer had to fit a fixed cable-TV slot.
What WWE announced about Raw’s two-hour format
On September 9, 2024, WWE announced that Raw would move from three hours to two starting October 7. The shorter format covered the show’s remaining 2024 run on USA Network; it did not establish a lasting runtime for Netflix. Wrestling Inc. reported the change as a temporary USA Network arrangement, while Pro Wrestling Torch noted that the Netflix format remained unresolved.
The reversal mattered because Raw had been a three-hour show since July 23, 2012, the episode tied to its 1,000th installment. A two-hour version meant less time for matches, interviews, promos, and backstage scenes. That can sharpen a weekly show by reducing repetition, but it also puts pressure on WWE to choose which stories and wrestlers receive airtime.
Why Netflix changed the runtime question
Raw moved to Netflix on January 6, 2025. Netflix’s announcement of the deal made Netflix Raw’s new U.S. home and outlined broader WWE distribution in many territories outside the United States, subject to local rights arrangements. Netflix’s Raw explainer describes the program as generally “two-plus hours” and says its length can vary.

That distinction matters: a two-hour cable slot includes scheduled advertising time, while an episode’s streaming runtime describes the program as delivered on the platform. A live wrestling show also has entrances, interviews, match finishes, and post-match angles whose durations are difficult to pin down exactly. Netflix’s flexibility makes a fixed two-hour or three-hour guarantee unnecessary; it does not mean every episode will run the same length.
What could realistically change on Netflix?
More flexibility from week to week
This is the clearest platform-related change. Netflix says Raw’s duration can vary, giving WWE room to finish an episode when the planned material is complete or to let a major match or angle run its course. The trade-off is less predictable end times for viewers watching live.

A different advertising experience, not necessarily no ads
Streaming gives WWE and Netflix more options for where interruptions occur and how promotions are presented. But it does not prove that Raw is commercial-free. Netflix has ad-supported plans, and sponsorships or other advertising arrangements may also shape a broadcast. The exact experience can depend on plan and territory; Netflix’s plan information is the place to check current plan details.

Netflix’s agreement extends beyond U.S. Raw rights: in covered markets, Netflix also became a home for additional WWE programming. Availability is not universal, because regional rights differ. That distribution creates an opportunity to reach viewers who would not ordinarily encounter Raw on U.S. cable, but it does not guarantee that every country receives the same shows or version.

Potential creative effects
A shorter or more tightly paced episode can reduce filler and make the weekly commitment easier for some viewers. The cost is fewer minutes for developing wrestlers, secondary feuds, and stories that need room to build. A variable-length format could let WWE give a major episode more time, but it could also result in longer shows when the company believes the card merits it.
What was reported—and what was not confirmed
Some coverage attributed the temporary two-hour decision to USA Network and said Netflix Raw would run three hours. Wrestling Headlines carried that backstage account; it should be treated as reporting, not as an official WWE or Netflix commitment. Sports Business Journal also covered uncertainty over the show’s Netflix length.

The Netflix move also changes how success should be assessed. Cable ratings and streaming measures such as views or time watched are not interchangeable, so a change in one does not by itself establish whether Raw gained or lost audience. The deal’s scale was widely reported: the Associated Press described it as a 10-year agreement valued at more than $5 billion, but that figure does not settle questions about weekly runtime or viewing experience. In a country where Netflix holds the relevant WWE rights, viewers can find Raw through Netflix; rights and included programming vary by territory. Check Netflix’s signup page and its current plans and pricing information for local availability and plan terms. A Netflix subscription should not be assumed to include every WWE program or event in every country.
