The documented examples include a firefighter-paramedic, a financial planner, a wrestler who returned to WWE for an appearance, a Performance Center coach, and a wrestler who still takes occasional independent dates. None of these is a complete account of the roster, and most are drawn from WWE profiles that were written some time ago, so each one needs to be read as a dated snapshot rather than a current status report.
Which ECW this article covers
The name “ECW” refers to two different eras, and the difference matters for this question. The original Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion ran from 1992 to 2001. The ECW historical archive reviewed for this article focuses on that original period and treats WWE’s 2005 One Night Stand event and its 2006–2010 television run as later material.
This article covers the second era: the WWE ECW brand that aired from 2006 to 2010. Performers named here are people WWE or a dated trade report connects with that brand and who describe what they did afterward.
Who is included, and how far the evidence goes
The five performers below are selected examples. They are not a systematic review of every ECW-brand wrestler, and the sources do not establish what most of the roster did after 2010. Where a source describes a job, that is what the source reported, not verified employment on the day you read this.

- WWE profiles are official company biographies. Several were written years ago and describe a past status, not a present one.
- The Wrestling Inc. report is a November 23, 2025 article that relays remarks Kevin Thorn made on the Talk’N Shop podcast. It is a self-report, dated to that interview.
Documented updates for selected performers
Paul Burchill
WWE says Burchill moved onto its ECW roster and adjusted his in-ring style after a knee injury. According to the profile, he requested and received his WWE release after ECW closed in February 2010. The profile describes him as a firefighter-paramedic with the Jeffersontown, Kentucky, fire department, a member of the local police department’s SWAT team, and a paramedic with Yellow EMS in Louisville. Those job details come from an older WWE profile and should be treated as reported, not confirmed for the present.
Burchill told WWE.com: “Having wrestled with the best in the world, I got my fix. I didn’t want people to remember me as the wrestler. I needed to do a little less for myself and a little more for others.”

Spike Dudley (Matthew Hyson)
WWE’s profile says Hyson was released in 2005, returned to independent wrestling, and traveled for several years. He then briefly operated a wrestling school. The profile says he later became a financial planner with MassMutual, helping clients with retirement, college, and tax planning. The profile is from an earlier period, so employment should be checked before you describe him as currently working in finance.
Hyson is quoted in the profile: “I’m helping people live a better life and take care of their families.”

Tommy Dreamer
WWE’s profile recounts Dreamer’s part in the ECW relaunch. It says he wrestled his final ECW-brand match on December 29, 2009, then left WWE to compete in wrings around the world. The profile also records a WWE return in December 2015, for a match alongside other ECW alumni. Together these establish a continued wrestling career and a later WWE appearance. They do not establish a current schedule.
Steve Corino
WWE’s recruiting profile says that after ECW, Corino wrestled in Japan, including 86 tours as stated in that profile. It says he later worked in several wrestling roles and describes him as a member of the WWE Performance Center coaching team. The profile is a company source, but its date is not stated in the version reviewed, so the coaching role should be confirmed before publication or use.

Kevin Thorn (Kevin Fertig)
The Wrestling Inc. report, dated November 23, 2025, says Thorn continued taking occasional independent wrestling dates and had a real-estate career in Indianapolis. These remarks were made on the Talk’N Shop podcast. Because the report is roughly eleven months old as of this writing, treat it as what Thorn said in late 2025, not as confirmed status today.

Checking a status before you repeat it
Before describing any of these performers as currently employed, work through the following:
- Check the date of the source. A WWE profile can be a decade or more old and still be indexed as a current biography.
- Separate the reported job from the present job. “Worked as” and “works as” are different claims.
- Look for a recent first-person source, such as the performer’s own public channels, a dated interview, or a recent report that names the employer.
- Treat a podcast remark as a self-report, and attribute it to the speaker and the date of the interview.
- Where a source is silent, write that the status is not stated, rather than filling the gap with an assumption that the person has left wrestling or is still in the ring.
Finding the ECW-era matches
The ECW historical archive lists WWE’s 2004 DVD The Rise and Fall of ECW among related releases, and it directs readers to WWE Network for matches from the 2005 One Night Stand event and the 2006–2010 television era. Those are the formats the archive names. Whether a disc is still in print, or which service carries these matches in your country, is not established by the archive and changes over time, so check the current availability on the service or retailer itself before relying on it.
Peacock is another service that may carry some WWE material in some markets. Confirm its current catalog and regional availability directly.
Taken together, the documented updates show varied paths rather than a single fate for the ECW brand’s wrestlers. Each path is a dated account of a different person’s life, so the most useful habit is to check the date and the source before repeating any of them as current.
