The headline result from the March 20, 2026 episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown is that Damian Priest and R-Truth won the Tag Team Championships from The MFTs by pinfall. The episode’s central storyline was Randy Orton explaining, in the ring, why he attacked Cody Rhodes the previous week. According to a recap published by Cave News Times at 11:01 p.m. EDT that night, Orton said his legacy should be built on championship success and that he is pursuing a 15th championship. The recap is the only detailed account this article draws on, so the results and quotes below are attributed to it rather than independently confirmed against WWE’s own broadcast records.
Match results from the episode
The recap lists five match outcomes. The table below reproduces them with the context the recap gives. Where the recap does not provide a detail, the cell says so.
| Match | Result | Context reported |
|---|---|---|
| Damian Priest and R-Truth vs. The MFTs | Priest and R-Truth won by pinfall and captured the Tag Team Championships | Title change. Match length and finish details: not stated in the recap. |
| Motor City Machine Guns vs. Fraxiom | Motor City Machine Guns won by pinfall | No title stakes mentioned. Match length: not stated in the recap. |
| Aleister Black vs. Sami Zayn | Aleister Black won by pinfall | Singles bout. Backstage fallout is covered in the Zayn section below. |
| Carmelo Hayes vs. Ilja Dragunov | Hayes won by pinfall and retained the United States Championship | Title defense for Hayes. Finish details: not stated in the recap. |
| The Irresistible Forces vs. The Bella Twins | No contest | Charlotte Flair interfered, which ended the match without a winner. |
Why Randy Orton attacked Cody Rhodes, and what he said
Orton returned on this episode to address the attack on Rhodes from the prior week. The recap paraphrases his explanation rather than providing a verbatim transcript, so the points below are summaries of what the article reports, not direct quotations.
- Fans and the song: Orton said he appreciates fans singing his entrance song, but that he felt empty despite that support.
- Legacy: He said he wants his legacy defined by championship success, and he described pursuing a 15th championship as part of that goal.
- The change of plan: The recap says Orton had expected to face Drew McIntyre, but that Rhodes’s win changed his course, which is the stated reason he turned on Rhodes.
The explanation reframes the Rhodes attack as a career-motivated decision rather than a random assault. Whether that framing holds across future episodes will show whether the storyline is building toward a specific title pursuit.

Orton, Matt Cardona, and the false apology
The recap describes a second Orton storyline in the same episode. Matt Cardona questioned the attack on Rhodes, and Orton responded by attacking him. Orton then appeared to apologize, only to attack Cardona again. The recap says Orton delivered an RKO and smashed a chair against Cardona’s forearm, and that officials intervened to stop the assault. Those events are reported as part of the televised program, and the recap’s account of them is the only source for this article.
Drew McIntyre, Jacob Fatu, and the elevated-platform fight
The recap reports the McIntyre and Jacob Fatu feud escalated through several steps. According to the account, McIntyre rammed Fatu’s car in the parking lot and attacked him. McIntyre later argued with Nick Aldis, and Fatu returned to attack McIntyre. Near the end of the show, the two continued fighting on an elevated platform and fell off together. The recap does not state the consequences of the fall or any official ruling on it.
Jade Cargill and Rhea Ripley
Jade Cargill called out Rhea Ripley, and the recap says the exchange focused on the title. Ripley said she would take the title at WrestleMania. After Cargill left the ring area, B-Fab and Michin attacked Ripley. The recap describes them as aligning with Cargill, which sets up a possible multi-person conflict heading toward WrestleMania. The recap does not name which title is at stake beyond the reference to “the title” in the exchange, so that detail should be read as the recap’s wording rather than a confirmed title match.

Jelly Roll and Kit Wilson
According to the recap, Kit Wilson challenged Jelly Roll. Wilson framed the encounter as slam poetry rather than a fight, and then attacked him.
Sami Zayn and Trick Williams
The recap describes a backstage exchange after Zayn was asked about the attack on Rhodes. Trick Williams warned Zayn to stay out of his business. Zayn’s match against Aleister Black on the same episode is listed in the results table above.
What the source does and does not establish
- Single source: Every result and storyline in this article comes from one recap published by Cave News Times on March 20, 2026. A Yardbarker syndication of the same recap also circulated, but it repeats the same reporting and does not independently confirm it.
- No official WWE confirmation: Readers should treat the results as the recap reports them. WWE’s own broadcast listings or official results pages were not used to check them here.
- Paraphrase, not transcript: Orton’s explanation and the other promos are summarized by the recap. None of the wording in this article should be read as a verbatim quote.
- Missing detail: The recap does not give match times, stipulations beyond the title references, or outcomes of the McIntyre–Fatu fall.
Where to watch
The recap lists USA Network for viewers in the United States and Netflix for international viewers. That is a broad listing. It does not confirm availability in any specific country, on-demand access to this episode, or whether a particular streaming service carries the show in your region. Check current listings from WWE or your local provider before relying on that information.

- If you are outside the United States, confirm whether Netflix carries WWE programming in your country before assuming the episode is available there.
The recap is a summary of one episode. For the complete match footage and the exact wording of the promos, the broadcast itself is the primary source.
Taken together, the episode’s results pivot on a title change in the tag division and an escalating Orton storyline that the recap frames around legacy and a pursuit of a 15th championship. Its secondary threads, including the McIntyre–Fatu fight and the Cargill–Ripley conflict, set up further developments that later episodes will need to resolve.
