In Rolling Stone’s account, the night was strongest when the Clan’s core members and collaborators locked into the music; a crowded guest program and some uneven moments kept it from being uniformly sharp.
Which Madison Square Garden show does this review cover?
This is the July 16, 2025 stop of Wu-Tang Clan’s Wu-Tang Forever: The Final Chamber tour. Rolling Stone’s Andre Gee described it as a purportedly final MSG set within the group’s farewell tour—not proof that the Clan can never perform at the venue again. It is separate from Wu-Tang Clan’s much shorter halftime appearance at MSG on June 10, 2026, during Game 4 of the NBA Finals (setlist.fm’s 2026 event listing).
Run the Jewels opened the 2025 show, according to the community-maintained setlist.fm event page. The report below distinguishes Gee’s description of the concert from that site’s reported setlist.
How did the concert unfold?
Gee describes a staged entrance that began with an RZA freestyle before other members joined across the opening songs. In his narrative, Method Man appeared around the fourth song, and the show then shifted among spotlights for different members and combinations. The setlist.fm page places “Sunlight” first and “Bring da Ruckus” second; Gee’s review identifies “Bring da Ruckus” as the opening song of the main Wu-Tang set. Those accounts describe the opening from different angles, rather than establishing that the track was the first sound of the entire concert.

Reported songs and the opening run
The reported setlist begins with “Sunlight,” “Bring da Ruckus,” “Clan in da Front” and “Da Mystery of Chessboxin’.” It also includes a run of early group staples: “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta F’ Wit,” “Method Man,” “Shame on a Nigga” and “Protect Ya Neck.” Solo material and guest performances appear elsewhere in the list. The page is a fan-maintained record, not an official production document, so treat it as a reported listing rather than a definitive set-by-set transcript.
Guests and tributes
The guest appearances made the concert feel less like a straight run through the group’s catalog and more like a series of linked New York hip-hop spotlights. Havoc joined Raekwon and Ghostface Killah for “Eye for an Eye” and “Shook Ones Pt. 2”; Redman joined Method Man; and Big Daddy Kane appeared during a tribute to Biz Markie. Lil Cease and Lil Kim joined a Biggie tribute, while Slick Rick performed most of “Children’s Story.” Young Dirty Bastard, son of Ol’ Dirty Bastard, led a two-song tribute moment before the show returned to “Triumph.”

What worked—and what did not?
Gee’s strongest praise is for the performances by RZA, GZA, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck and Method Man, whom he describes as the most consistently strong members onstage. He singles out the Havoc, Raekwon and Ghostface stretch as the most invigorating part of the night. These are the reviewer’s judgments, not a measure of audience consensus.
His reservations are specific. The mix obscured the horns on “Shame on a Nigga,” and he found kinks in Young Dirty Bastard’s tribute segment. He also argues that the many cameos displaced some solo classics played at another tour stop. The tradeoff is central to the show’s character: the guests broadened the evening’s scope, but left less room for individual members’ own catalogs.

How does the show fit the farewell tour?
The guest-heavy format and rotating combinations were not unique to MSG. In a report on the June 11, 2025 Atlanta stop, The FADER described a long group celebration in which members cycled through smaller lineups and solo-album material, with a festival-like feel. Its writer reported a 40-song set lasting about two hours for that Atlanta performance; those figures should not be applied to MSG. The report offers tour context, not a substitute setlist or runtime for New York (The FADER’s Atlanta report).

Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers is the useful studio companion for hearing the original versions of several songs associated with the MSG set, including “Bring da Ruckus” and “Method Man.” It is the group’s studio album, not a recording of the concert. Legacy Recordings lists it as a 13-song album (Legacy Recordings’ catalog page).
