Wolfs is most enjoyable when Brad Pitt and George Clooney trade cool, mildly competitive barbs; the trouble is that the overnight caper around them rarely develops enough momentum to justify its length. Jon Watts’s 2024 crime comedy has the ingredients of a stylish star vehicle, but its episodic complications can make the chase feel more prolonged than suspenseful.
What is Wolfs about?
George Clooney plays a professional fixer hired to cover up a high-profile crime. When Brad Pitt’s fixer unexpectedly arrives at the same scene, the two lone operators have to work together through a night that keeps getting more complicated. Jon Watts wrote and directed the film, which Apple describes as an action comedy.

The setup is deliberately simple: the fixers are skilled, self-contained professionals, and their reluctant partnership supplies the friction. Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, Richard Kind, and Zlatko Burić round out the principal cast.
Do Pitt and Clooney work well together?
Yes—their easy familiarity is the film’s strongest asset. The performances lean on pauses, dry reactions, and small status contests rather than big comic turns. Pitt and Clooney make the men’s irritation with one another entertaining, and the contrast between their polished personas gives the dialogue much of its snap.

That chemistry is also asked to do a great deal of work. The characters’ banter often feels more alive than the situations prompting it, and the film can seem content to let the stars’ presence stand in for deeper character development. AP film writer Jake Coyle praised their charisma, describing Wolfs as a “sleek New York caper” designed to show that they can “still, without ever really breaking a sweat, get the job done.” That is a fair description of the movie’s appeal—and of its limitation.
Why does the all-night chase feel disappointing?
The movie keeps adding complications to a cleanup job that initially promises a brisk, contained caper. Some of the detours give the leads new chances to needle each other, but the chain of incidents does not consistently build suspense or deepen the story. As a result, the night can feel episodic: the characters move from one problem to another without each turn making the overall predicament substantially more compelling.

Pacing and comic timing
Watts gives the film a sleek, controlled surface, and its humor works best in the quieter exchanges. But the plot’s brisk activity is not the same as dramatic momentum. When a new complication arrives mainly to extend the pair’s time together, the film’s 1 hour 47 minute runtime can feel longer than its premise suggests.
Style and supporting cast
The polished caper style suits two fixers who prize control, while the supporting performers help populate the increasingly tangled night. Still, the film’s center of gravity remains firmly with Pitt and Clooney. The supporting roles provide complications and color more than a competing emotional or comic thread, leaving the leads’ chemistry to carry most scenes.

What did critics disagree about?
The available reviews offer a useful contrast, not evidence of a universal critical consensus. Coyle at the Associated Press emphasizes the stars’ relaxed charisma and the movie’s sleek caper appeal. Le Monde critic Murielle Joudet, by contrast, argues that the frenetic pace becomes numbing and criticizes both the screenplay and the leads’ restrained performances. The difference turns on whether the cool, controlled manner feels like playful star chemistry or like a story that never gathers enough force.

Apple announced in August 2024 that Jon Watts had been tapped to write a sequel. That announcement is a dated plan, not confirmation of the sequel’s current production status.
