Rachel and Brandon Dumovich, a newlywed couple from Sharon, Wisconsin, were found shot inside a car in Harvard, Illinois, on October 6, 2025. Early in the investigation, police said murder-suicide was one possibility but that no final determination had been made. On November 13, WIFR/Rockford News First reported that authorities concluded Brandon fatally shot Rachel and then took his own life.
Where and how the couple was found
Rachel Dumovich, 29, and Brandon Dumovich, 30, were found late October 6, 2025, in a car stopped in the northbound lane of Division Street, also known as U.S. Route 14, near Burbank Street in Harvard, Illinois. The couple lived in Sharon, Wisconsin; the deaths occurred in Illinois.

According to the Lake and McHenry County Scanner, the car’s hazard lights were on. A Harvard Police Department officer approached as if to help a stranded motorist and found Rachel in the driver’s seat and Brandon in the passenger seat. A firearm was recovered inside the vehicle. Lake and McHenry County Scanner’s October 15 report details the discovery and preliminary autopsy findings.
What investigators said, and when
October 14: murder-suicide was a possibility, not a determination
In a statement reported by Fox News on October 14, Harvard Police Chief Tyson Bauman said: “While a murder-suicide is a potential scenario, no final determination has been made.” That described the status of the investigation at that time; it was not the later reported conclusion. Fox News reported Bauman’s statement.

October 15: preliminary autopsy findings
McHenry County Coroner Dr. Michael Rein said preliminary autopsy findings showed that both died from gunshot wounds to the head. The manner of death for each had not yet been officially ruled, according to the Scanner’s October 15 report.
November 13: authorities’ reported conclusion
WIFR/Rockford News First reported on November 13 that authorities concluded their investigation indicated Brandon shot Rachel and then took his own life. The report also noted the coroner’s autopsy finding and that police found a gun in the vehicle. WIFR’s November 13 report provides the later account.

How the accounts fit together
The October statements and the November report reflect different points in the investigation. On October 14, the police chief said investigators had not reached a final determination. The next day, the coroner described preliminary autopsy findings while noting that the manner of death remained officially unr ruled at that point. The later television report attributed a conclusion to authorities: Brandon killed Rachel and then himself.
The available accounts establish that progression, but they do not establish whether an official update or record was issued after November 13, 2025. The November report should therefore be described as the later reported conclusion, not assumed to be the last official record.
