On February 24, 2024, families instead found a sparsely decorated warehouse, confused performers and an event that was abruptly canceled. The same organizer, Billy Coull, was also linked in contemporary reporting to a catalog of Amazon-listed books described as apparently AI-generated, including Operation Inoculation, a conspiracy-themed book about vaccination.
The episode is not evidence that artificial intelligence wrote every word associated with the event or the books. It is, however, a revealing case study in how AI-generated imagery and text can make a thinly supported commercial proposition look polished, elaborate and trustworthy.
What happened at the Glasgow chocolate event?
House of Illuminati Ltd promoted Willy’s Chocolate Experience as a family-friendly immersive attraction at Box Hub Warehouse in Glasgow. Its online advertising used fantastical chocolate-factory imagery and language that evoked the world associated with Willy Wonka.
Attendees who arrived on February 24, 2024, reported something very different: a largely empty warehouse, minimal props, sparse decoration and performers who appeared to have little usable material to work with. Parents demanded refunds, police attended amid the anger, and the event was canceled.

Contemporary reports said the organizer offered refunds to approximately 850 people. That is an offer reported at the time, not a definitive audited count of refunds successfully completed. The available reporting also does not establish a final total for attendance or the event’s financial outcome.
The attraction was not affiliated with Warner Bros., the 2023 film Wonka or Roald Dahl’s estate. The resemblance was part of the marketing language and visual framing, not evidence of an official connection.
Who was behind Willy’s Chocolate Experience?
Companies House identified Billy Coull as the person with significant control of House of Illuminati Ltd, the company registered in November 2023 behind the Glasgow event. The corporate record gave him at least 75 percent of the company’s shares and voting rights, along with the power to appoint or remove directors.
That establishes Coull’s corporate connection to House of Illuminati. It does not, by itself, prove that he personally created every advertisement, script or book associated with the company or its online activity.
Rolling Stone’s 2024 reporting described Coull as appearing to be House of Illuminati’s sole employee and reported that some of the company’s websites used AI-generated art and likely AI-written descriptions. The same reporting said some of Coull’s online profiles were later removed or deleted after the Wonka controversy. Those observations should be understood as a snapshot from 2024, not a statement of the company’s current status.

Where does the AI connection come from?
Several elements of the event’s promotion attracted attention because they looked like common generative-image failures: malformed lettering, implausible visual details and imagery that suggested a chocolate fantasy world without the consistency normally expected from professional production design.
Journalists also described the promotional copy as likely generated by an AI chatbot. That is a qualified assessment based on the material examined by reporters—not a published admission that an AI system produced all of it.
The strongest firsthand account came from performer Paul Connell, who was cast as “Willy McDuff.” In an interview with WIRED, Connell said he received a 15-page script shortly before the event and considered it “AI-generated gibberish.” His statement is direct testimony about the script he received. It does not prove that every part of the event’s creative, logistical or business operation was generated by AI.

That distinction matters. AI-detection tools and stylistic inspection can raise reasonable questions, but they are not the same as provenance records, publisher disclosures or forensic proof of authorship. “Reported as AI-generated,” “apparently AI-written” and “AI-linked” are supportable descriptions here. “Every word was definitively written by AI” is not.
The Amazon books linked to Billy Coull
The Glasgow event was not the only part of the story to draw scrutiny. Rolling Stone reported that Coull’s Amazon author page contained roughly 16 books published during the summer of 2023, with some publication dates clustered on the same day.

The reporting said GPTZero analysis characterized synopses and book text as AI-generated. It also cited at least one reader review complaining that the prose was incoherent and machine-like. These details support describing the catalog as reported as AI-generated, but they do not establish that Coull personally wrote none of the material or that an AI system produced every passage.
The total number of titles currently available, their sales, rankings and revenue are not established by the reviewed sources. Nor does the available evidence establish that Amazon formally removed the books.

Operation Inoculation: what the book claims—and what it proves
The most consequential title identified in the reporting was Operation Inoculation. Rolling Stone described it as a “conspiratorial journey into vaccination truth,” involving the deep state and a supposed collapse of the vaccination campaign’s façade.
That framing makes the book relevant beyond the question of AI authorship. It presents a conspiracy narrative about a medical subject where readers need reliable evidence, transparent sourcing and an accurate account of uncertainty. It should be treated as an object of media-literacy analysis, not as medical guidance.
The book’s documented promotional framing does not establish that its claims are true. Nor do the reviewed reports establish that it caused vaccine hesitancy, achieved a particular level of sales or changed anyone’s medical decisions. Those would require separate evidence.
