In a July 14, 2025 report, ELLE said Netflix had not officially confirmed a third film and that Charlize Theron was uncertain it would be made. That report predates October 8, 2026, so it does not establish the franchise’s current status.
What is the status of The Old Guard 3?
The latest dated status in the available reporting is ELLE’s July 14, 2025 article: it said a third film had not been officially confirmed. That is not a current confirmation or rejection from Netflix, and no later official status is established here. Netflix’s official page identifies The Old Guard 2 as the 2025 sequel, but does not announce a third installment.

Keep the timeline straight: Netflix says the original The Old Guard rose on its charts in summer 2020, and The Old Guard 2 followed in 2025. The July 2025 uncertainty concerned a possible third film, not whether the sequel had been released. Netflix gives no chart rank or viewing total in its account of the original film’s performance.
What did Charlize Theron say?
ELLE reported that Theron was unsure Netflix would make another film. It quoted her saying, “One thing I’ve learned in this business is that there are no guarantees.” The article also reported her saying, “I’m being completely honest when I say that we have absolutely no idea what that [third film] would even look like.” These statements convey uncertainty, not a decision that the film will or will not happen.

Why do viewers expect another sequel?
The Old Guard 2 ends on a cliffhanger: much of the team is captured, while Andy and Quynh are set on a rescue mission. That gives the story a clear route into a continuation, but a plot setup is not evidence that Netflix has approved production.
Writer Greg Rucka has also described a possible larger arc. ELLE reported his statement, “There is a complete three-part story that can be told.” That is a creative possibility, not confirmation of Netflix’s plans.

What would confirm The Old Guard 3?
The strongest evidence would be an official Netflix announcement. Statements from Theron or the filmmakers can clarify their intentions or expectations, but do not by themselves establish a greenlight. A cliffhanger can suggest where the plot might go; it cannot establish that another film is in production.
For readers who want more of the story’s source world while waiting for a definitive announcement, the films draw on the graphic novels by Greg Rucka and illustrator Leandro Fernández. Check the specific edition and availability with a bookseller.
