No third Wicked film has been announced. Director Jon M. Chu has acknowledged that ideas are circulating, and Universal’s marketing chief says the studio is exploring how to continue the wider Wicked universe. Neither comment confirms a third movie is greenlit or in production. Universal presents Wicked: For Good as the final chapter of its two-part adaptation.
Has Universal confirmed Wicked 3?
No. As of October 8, 2026, the public statements cited here do not confirm a third Wicked film, a release date, or a cast for one. The confirmed screen story is the two-part adaptation: Wicked and Wicked: For Good.

Universal’s official film page calls Wicked: For Good “the final chapter” and describes it as the conclusion to the witches-of-Oz story. NBCUniversal explains that the screen adaptation was split across the two films to follow the stage musical’s two acts. That framing describes the end of this adaptation, not necessarily the end of every possible story in the wider universe.
What Jon M. Chu said about another film
At the Wicked: For Good New York premiere in November 2025, Variety asked director Jon M. Chu about the possibility of a third film. He responded, “What’s it about?” and said, “You know, there’s a lot of ideas flying around right now. … We’ll see. Let’s enjoy this ride first.”

Chu acknowledged that ideas were being discussed, but he did not announce a script, commitment to direct, or greenlight. His answer leaves the possibility open without establishing that a third movie is moving forward.
What Bowen Yang and Cynthia Erivo said
Bowen Yang: “I think we leave it here”
At the same November 2025 premiere, Variety asked actor Bowen Yang whether a third film might be greenlit. Yang said, “I think we leave it here.” He then joked about pitching a spin-off centered on his and Bronwyn James’s characters, Pfannee and ShenShen. The spin-off remark was playful, not an announcement of a project.

Cynthia Erivo: the two-part adaptation concludes
In a December 2025 interview, Cynthia Erivo described Wicked: For Good as the conclusion of Chu’s two-part adaptation. Her comment supports the idea that the existing film arc is complete; it does not rule out a separate future project in the wider Wicked universe.
What Universal means by continuing the “universe”
After Wicked: For Good’s opening weekend, Universal chief marketing officer Michael Moses told Vulture, in remarks reported by GamesRadar+, “Because of Wicked’s success but also the fanship, we have almost a responsibility to figure out how we can continue in this universe.” He added, “Have we figured it out yet? No. But there are things underway.”

Moses’s wording points to exploration of ways to continue the broader universe. It does not specify a third feature film, identify a project in production, or say that a third movie has been approved. That distinction reconciles the comments about future possibilities with Universal’s description of Wicked: For Good as the final chapter of the current story.
What is known—and what is not
- Known: Universal has released a two-part adaptation, and its official page describes Wicked: For Good as the final chapter.
- Known: Chu has acknowledged circulating ideas, while Moses has said Universal is considering how to continue the wider universe.
- Not announced: A third film, a greenlight, a production schedule, a release date, or returning cast members for one.
- Not established: That the “things underway” mentioned by Moses are specifically a third feature film.
So “Wicked 3” remains a fan question, not a confirmed movie. A future project could take another form, but the cited comments do not say what it would be.

Where to watch or revisit the two films
NBCUniversal reported that Wicked: For Good began streaming on Peacock on March 20, 2026, and a later update on its Peacock page said both films were available there from May 21. Streaming availability can change by date and territory, so check Peacock’s current listings for your location. Universal Pictures At Home also lists a Wicked 2-Film Collection in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD; check the listing for current format and retailer availability.
