What happens at the end of Butterfly season 1?
The finale brings David Jung’s family together for dinner, only for the fragile reunion to collapse into a new emergency. Eunju is found gravely injured, and Rebecca is missing. David asks Eunju whether Rebecca hurt her, but Eunju is too weak to answer. The closing moment does not reveal who attacked Eunju or where Rebecca has gone.
Who hurt Eunju?
The finale does not identify the attacker. Any proposed culprit or explanation is viewer speculation, not a confirmed answer from the episode.

Where is Rebecca?
Rebecca’s whereabouts are unresolved at the end of the season. The crisis leaves open whether she is involved in Eunju’s injury and what her disappearance means for her relationship with David.
What did Daniel Dae Kim say about season 2?
In a TIME interview published August 13, 2025, before the cancellation report, star and executive producer Daniel Dae Kim said, “We hope that there’s a second season.” He described the creative interest in testing the bonds established during season one. That comment reflected the team’s hopes at the time; it did not confirm that Prime Video had ordered more episodes. TV Insider also spoke with Kim, Piper Perabo, and Reina Hardesty about the finale and hopes for a continuation, but those earlier hopes were superseded by the later cancellation.

What is Butterfly based on?
The series adapts BOOM! Studios’ original graphic novel, created by Arash Amel, written by Amel and Marguerite Bennett, and illustrated by Antonio Fuso and Stefano Simeone. The story follows former U.S. intelligence operative David Jung in South Korea as he contends with his estranged daughter Rebecca and the covert organization Caddis.
The graphic novel is the source material, not a continuation of the television series; it does not supply the finale’s missing answer. Penguin Random House International Sales’ 2025 catalog describes an expanded edition with additional behind-the-scenes material about the Prime Video adaptation. Check the current publisher or retailer listing for the available edition.
