The Associated Press reported Sunday estimates of $150 million from North American theaters and $226 million worldwide. These were opening-weekend estimates, not the later finalized domestic total. The Numbers subsequently listed a finalized domestic opening-weekend gross of $147,004,640 across 4,115 theaters. That later database figure is the settled domestic weekend total, rather than a competing worldwide figure or a revision of the AP’s worldwide estimate. The Numbers.

Biggest opening for a Broadway musical adaptation
AP described the estimated $150 million North American debut as the largest opening ever for a Broadway musical adaptation, surpassing the first Wicked film’s $112 million opening. This is a category-specific record, not a claim that the film had the biggest opening of any kind.

What AMC’s audience figures show—and what they do not
AMC Entertainment said more than 4.5 million guests visited AMC and ODEON theaters from Monday through Sunday during opening week, and approximately two thirds of those guests attended Wicked: For Good. That is a figure for those theater chains, not a count of all moviegoers or a substitute for box-office revenue. AMC also called the film its top opening-weekend merchandise program of 2025. Why the opening mattered to theaters in November 2025
AP framed the result as a lift for exhibitors after a slow fall, making the headline’s holiday-season optimism a reading of that particular 2025 weekend—not a forecast for the current film market. Jim Orr, Universal’s head of domestic distribution, told AP, “The results are just fantastic.” Variety quoted David A. Gross of Franchise Entertainment Research calling it “broad-appealing Hollywood filmmaking at its best.” Both were contemporaneous reactions to the opening. Variety.

The Numbers lists Wicked: For Good as a wide release on November 21, 2025, with a runtime of 137 minutes. Its film page lists a December 30, 2025 Universal Home Entertainment video release date, but does not establish specific Blu-ray or DVD editions or current retailer availability.
