What purpose does her death serve in the story?
Her death changes the emotional lives of the people closest to her. Megan had married Sylvester Dodd just days earlier, according to TV Insider, making her loss especially consequential for him. The same outlet reported that the death set up Sylvester’s personal growth; actor Ari Stidham described it as putting the character on “a very fertile ground for personal growth.”
The episode also advances Walter’s emotional story through Megan’s recorded message to him. TVLine’s recap quotes her saying, “Don’t be afraid of who you really are.” That line is part of the fictional farewell, not evidence of why the producers made the real-world decision to write her out. Before the episode aired, the producers described it as an emotional turning point in comments reported by TVLine.

Did Camille Guaty ask to leave the show?
The available reporting does not establish that Guaty requested to leave, that her contract ended, or that scheduling or production circumstances led to Megan’s death. An earlier interview with Guaty by My Take on TV discusses Megan and her relationship with Walter, but it predates the death and does not explain the later writing decision. The supported answer, therefore, is that Megan’s death has a clear in-story cause and character impact, while Guaty’s reason for leaving—if she left for a particular reason—is not established by these sources.
