He has not disclosed why Netflix chose the shorter order.
Why does Season 2 have only six episodes?
Hawley said the writers’ room initially planned for eight episodes, but Netflix later told the team to make six. In a January 2025 interview with Deadline, syndicated by Yahoo Entertainment, he recalled: “Originally, we had come in for the writers room with the idea that we were going to do eight, and then, ultimately, Netflix reached out to say six.”

That account identifies the change in episode order; it is not an official explanation from Netflix of why it made the decision. The sources do not establish whether the choice was tied to budget, ratings, production delays, strategy, or another factor.
What changed in the story?
Hawley said the smaller order affected what the season could include. Some planned material was cut or condensed, including parts of Nichka’s backstory, according to the interview. The available account does not specify every change made to fit the six-episode season.

How many episodes are there, and when did they arrive?
All six episodes were available to stream when Season 2 premiered on January 30, 2025. Netflix Tudum lists the season’s six episode titles, and Netflix’s series listing confirms the season is streaming. There is no evidence in these sources that two additional episodes were scheduled to arrive later.
Is Season 2 shorter than Season 1?
Yes. Season 1 had eight episodes, while Season 2 has six. The difference reflects the reduced order Hawley described: the writers’ room began with an eight-episode idea, and Netflix subsequently ordered six. Hawley’s account does not connect that decision to the gap between seasons or to the Hollywood strikes.

What is the season about?
Netflix describes Season 2 as following CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks into a dangerous espionage situation in South Korea. Its six-episode count is a production-order change, not evidence that the season was intended as a two-part release.
