The program had blended satire and entertainment with consumer-affairs coverage.
Why was The Checkout cancelled?
The Guardian reported on 6 July 2018 that producers said the ABC had given budget cuts and high production costs as reasons for shelving the program. That explanation is attributed to the producers’ account of what the broadcaster said; it is not a direct ABC statement reproduced in the report. The Guardian’s 2018 report also quoted executive producer Julian Morrow: “We’re disappointed the ABC’s funding priorities do not include The Checkout.”
What was The Checkout about?
The show combined comedy and consumer awareness. ABC iview describes it as a satirical consumer-affairs program covering consumer issues and ways to save money. The ABC credits list Julian Morrow and Nick Murray as executive producers and say the series was produced with CHOICE’s cooperation. That credit establishes a production connection, not a current commercial relationship or endorsement.

The ABC iview listing for a series 4 episode currently says the program is unavailable on iview and displays “LAST CHANCE.” This listing does not establish whether the complete series is available through another service, in a repeat broadcast, or on physical media.
