Trump Jr. captioned it, “Make America Healthy Again starts TOMORROW.” Kennedy had recently criticized the food served on Trump’s plane, which made the image an apparent contrast—but the still does not show whether Kennedy ate the food or how he felt about it.
What the photo shows
Futurism reported that Trump Jr. posted the photo on X on November 17, 2024. The report identified the people pictured as RFK Jr., Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Elon Musk, and described the setting as a private jet. Kennedy appeared to be holding what looked like a Big Mac box; the report does not establish exactly what was inside it.
Trump Jr.’s caption read: “Make America Healthy Again starts TOMORROW.” The line supplied the joke: it paired Kennedy’s health-focused political slogan with a fast-food meal on Trump’s plane.
Why the image drew attention
Shortly before the photo appeared, Kennedy had criticized the food served on Trump’s plane in a conversation with podcaster Joe Polish. As quoted by Futurism, Kennedy said, “The stuff that he eats is really, like, bad,” and described the food as “like just poison.”

He also said, “You’re either given KFC or Big Macs,” adding, “That’s when you’re lucky, and then the rest of the stuff I consider kind of inedible.” The juxtaposition of those comments with the photo made the post seem ironic; it does not establish that Kennedy ate the food pictured or that he was reacting to it.

“Grimacing” is an interpretation of Kennedy’s expression in a still image, not a confirmed account of his mood. Futurism called it an “inscrutable grimace,” but the image alone cannot establish whether he disliked the food, felt uncomfortable, or was simply caught in an unflattering moment. It also does not show that anyone pressured him to eat.

CNN journalist Andrew Kaczynski joked, as quoted by Futurism, that “RFK Jr. essentially being hazed here with the McDonalds.” That was a reaction to the image, not evidence of coercion. Yahoo’s version of the story syndicated the Futurism report rather than offering a separate account.
