That is a published estimate, not an official or independently verified accounting of his wealth. The site also estimated that his music catalog and other rights were worth $300–400 million. Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate should be read with those limits in mind.
What was Quincy Jones’s net worth?
The commonly reported figure is $500 million at the time of Jones’s death, according to Celebrity Net Worth, which also estimated his catalog and other rights at $300–400 million. Neither figure is a verified personal balance sheet or an official estate valuation. The sources reviewed do not establish Jones’s complete assets, liabilities, estate proceeds, or how any proceeds were allocated.
What the 2026 HarbourView deal does—and does not—show
In March 2026, HarbourView Equity Partners announced that it acquired select assets from the Quincy Jones Estate. The announcement names recorded music and publishing assets, ancillary rights including Jones’s participation in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and future initiatives related to his name, image, and likeness. It does not disclose the transaction price. HarbourView’s announcement therefore does not confirm the $500 million estimate or support a calculation of what the acquired assets sold for.
The word “select” matters: the announcement describes particular categories of assets, not a purchase of every asset or all rights associated with Jones. It also does not provide a complete inventory of the estate or identify the value of each asset category.

Why Jones’s career generated valuable rights
Jones’s work ranged across performance, composition, production, and the music business—activities that can generate different kinds of rights and income. The National Endowment for the Arts describes him as a bandleader, producer, composer, arranger, trumpeter, and record executive. It records collaborations with artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, and Michael Jackson. The NEA’s account of his career says he became Mercury Records’ music director in 1960 and vice president four years later, composed his first film score in 1964, and wrote scores for more than 35 films.
His production work included Michael Jackson’s Off the Wall and Thriller; he also oversaw the 1985 “We Are the World” recording sessions. The NEA records 28 Grammy wins from 80 nominations. These achievements help explain the breadth of Jones’s professional legacy, but they do not by themselves establish a net-worth figure: the value of rights depends on ownership, contracts, revenues, and other details not supplied by those career records.

Royalties are part of the story, not a net-worth calculation
In 2024, the Los Angeles Times reported that a Los Angeles jury awarded Jones $9.4 million in a royalties dispute with Michael Jackson’s estate. That reported judgment concerns a specific dispute; it is not a measure of Jones’s total wealth or proof of how much he ultimately received.

- Documented legacy: the NEA records 28 Grammy wins and 80 nominations, along with a career spanning music, film, and record-company leadership.
The Associated Press reported that Jones died on November 3, 2024, at age 91. For a first-person account of his life and work, AP identifies his 2001 book Q: The Autobiography of Quincy Jones as his autobiography; it is a career memoir, not a source for the net-worth estimate.
