In February 2024, Pink reportedly arrived at Manly 16ft Skiff Sailing Club with a dinner booking but without identification. A witness said staff refused the group entry; the club later said Pink chose to leave after a sign-in misunderstanding. Contemporary accounts differ on whether entry was eventually offered, so “denied entry” is not the only established account of how the visit ended.

What happened at the club?

The incident took place on a Monday night during Pink’s Australia tour. Manly Observer published its account on 14 February 2024, followed by 7NEWS coverage of the club’s response on 15 February.

Mark Eymes, whom Manly Observer identified as Manly Market Manager, said he overheard Pink explain that she had a booking but did not have ID when asked for it. Eymes said she was told she could not come in, despite having secured the booking with a deposit, and that he saw the group walk away. He characterized the outcome as the group being turfed out. Manly Observer’s report also quoted another apparent witness who believed the party may eventually have been allowed in but chose to leave.

Why do accounts differ about whether she was refused entry?

The reports describe the same sign-in encounter but do not establish exactly how it concluded. Eymes’s account was that Pink was told she could not enter and the group left. The other apparent witness’s view was that entry may later have been offered. In its subsequent statement, the club said Pink “chose to leave” after encountering a sign-in process issue.

Secretary manager Matt Hazell told 7NEWS that the club considered the episode a misunderstanding and apologized to Pink, her family and friends for the inconvenience. He said: “It’s important to clarify that Pink was not ‘turfed out’; she chose to leave after encountering the sign-in process issue.” The statement was reported by 7NEWS on 15 February 2024. Manly Observer had earlier reported that the club’s secretary manager declined comment at that time, citing visitor privacy.

Why could a booking and deposit not settle the sign-in issue?

A restaurant booking and the club’s entry process were separate matters in the accounts. The club describes itself as a registered club, and its published terms say patrons who live within a designated five-kilometre radius must become members or be signed in by a member to use club facilities. The terms are available in the club’s terms and conditions. They do not, in the cited passage, specify the exact steps taken in Pink’s case.

ClubTIC’s hospitality-industry commentary on section 31 of the Registered Clubs Act 1976 says the register includes a visitor’s name and address and argues that the law does not specifically require visitors to produce photo ID. That is secondary commentary, not a definitive legal opinion. The incident reports establish that ID was requested on this occasion; they do not establish that the Act universally requires photo ID, nor do they resolve every legal requirement or the club’s current procedure. What the reporting does—and does not—establish

  • Established in contemporary accounts: Pink reportedly had a booking, lacked ID when asked, and encountered a sign-in issue. The club apologized and described the incident as a misunderstanding.
  • Disputed: Whether she was definitively refused entry throughout the encounter or was later offered entry and chose to leave. The witness and club accounts differ on this point.
  • Not established: That Pink was forcibly removed, or that photo ID is universally required by law for registered-club visitors.

The club’s terms document may have changed since the incident. Anyone planning a visit should confirm the current entry and sign-in requirements directly with the venue rather than treating the 2024 reports or archived terms as present-day visitor instructions.
