Paul Teutul Sr. described Orange County Choppers’ move from New York to Florida as a chance for more freedom, a longer riding season and a fresh start. That is the sense in which the move could be called a “blessing”: it offered a lifestyle and business opportunity he believed suited his next chapter. The available reporting documents the Florida venue, but does not establish that the relocation improved OCC’s finances or long-term business performance.
Why Paul Teutul Sr. said the move made sense
In December 2020, Teutul cited several reasons for relocating Orange County Choppers (OCC): Florida’s riding weather, a fan base he believed was larger, a greater sense of freedom, and a personal readiness for change. Contemporary coverage by Hudson Valley Post reported his remarks in interviews with WKRG and WFLA.
A longer riding season, in his estimation
Teutul told WKRG, “I think I have more of a fan base down there in Florida and the riding season is nine months maybe even ten. In New York, you have a short season, maybe only three months or so. The whole thing makes sense.” Those figures are his personal estimates, not independently verified climate statistics or a measured comparison of riding days.
Freedom and a change of pace
Teutul also said, “There’s more of a sense of freedom down there.” In remarks to WFLA, he described the move as a matter of timing: “Sometimes it’s just time for change, you know? Where I’m at in my life, it’s time for change and you feel the freedom in Florida, you don’t feel it so much in New York anymore.” These statements express his own view of the move, rather than an objective comparison of life in the two states.

Politics and taxes were part of the story
The December 2020 report also said politics and taxes played a role. That helps explain the context around the relocation, but it does not establish that Florida’s policies or tax burden were definitively better for Teutul or OCC. The reporting presents the move as a combination of personal and practical considerations, not a documented tax calculation.
What OCC planned to build in Florida
OCC’s initial announcement described a Road House, museum and entertainment complex in the broader St. Pete/Clearwater area. The planned concept brought together motorcycles, a restaurant, retail and concerts—giving the brand a public-facing destination beyond its workshop. Hudson Valley Post’s December 2020 account reported the announcement and the reasons Teutul gave for the move.

Where the venue is now
The official OCC Road House website lists the venue at 10575 49th Street North, Clearwater, Florida. It describes a restaurant, concert venue, museum, live events and merchandise shop. The original “St. Pete/Clearwater” wording referred to the broader area; Clearwater is the address listed by the venue’s official site.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Was moving to Florida a business success?
The documented outcome is that OCC has a Florida venue with the restaurant, museum, entertainment and retail elements associated with the Road House concept. That supports describing the relocation as an opportunity that took physical shape. It does not, on its own, show whether the business became more profitable, increased sales, or performed better over the long term. The available reporting and venue description provide no comparative financial results.
