The best pin to collect is the one that connects with you: a team, sport, city, mascot, or memory. Scarcity can make a design sought after, but it does not establish a reliable price premium.
Why Olympic trading pins drew attention at Milano Cortina 2026
At the Milano Cortina Games, collectors chased limited YesMilano pins featuring city neighborhoods and landmarks. The Associated Press reported that more than 1,000 people came to the first day’s distribution point near Piazza Loreto, while 600 went to Torre Velasca the next day. The daily distribution limit was 250 pins. Those figures describe two specific locations and days; they are not a measure of global participation or social-media reach. Associated Press reporting.
AP described collectors waiting for an Instagram post announcing each day’s location, then hurrying to collect the pins. At official souvenir vendors, AP reported a price of 20 euros (about $24), up from an initial 12 euros. Those were event-time prices, not current prices. The reporting captures a lively Games-time scene, but it does not establish that the same activity continued afterward or that Olympic pins generally rose in value.
The social appeal is part of the hobby. At the trading center in Milan, collector Eddie Schneider described attending the Games as “like going to a World’s Fair every two years.” AP also reported collectors bringing substantial pin collections to trade. The center was described as the first official Olympic trading center since Pyeongchang 2018.

What kinds of Olympic pins can you collect?
Olympic pins are not just retail souvenirs. AP’s account of Milano Cortina included retail, delegation, team, sponsor, media, and National Olympic Committee pins. Other designs may connect to a city, venue, mascot, sport, or a collector’s personal memory.
- Retail pins: Items sold as souvenirs, often organized around the Games, mascot, city, or sport.
- Team and delegation pins: Pins associated with a national team or delegation.
- Sponsor pins: Designs connected to an event sponsor.
- Media pins: Pins associated with a broadcaster or media organization. AP noted that some collectors particularly sought Japanese media pins at Milano Cortina, citing rarity; this was an event-specific observation, not a universal ranking.
- City and venue pins: Designs tied to a host location or Games site, including the limited YesMilano neighborhood and landmark pins.
- Heritage pins: Designs that look back to earlier Games or Olympic collections.
Which Olympic pins are worth collecting?
“Worth collecting” is a matter of interest, not a reliable investment formula. Rarity may attract collectors, but the available event reporting does not establish standard market prices or a dependable premium for scarce pins. Choose based on the connection you want, the pin’s condition and provenance, and whether you want to keep it or trade it.

- Pages fit any standard 3 ring binder!

- Collect and display your Disney Pins!
- Choose a connection: Consider a Games, country, team, sponsor, sport, mascot, city, or personal memory that matters to you.
- Decide whether scarcity matters: A mass-retail pin, limited city distribution, or team, sponsor, delegation, or media issue can appeal to different collectors. Limited availability is not, by itself, proof of future value.
- Check condition: Examine the enamel, metal, clasp, packaging, and any certificate the seller claims is included. The sources cited here do not establish an official grading standard.
- Set a collecting purpose: You might keep a favorite design, trade common pins, or pursue a set. Do not assume every pin will be equally easy to trade.
Where to buy Olympic pins
The IOC Global Olympic Online Shop search listing showed physical pin examples from Milano Cortina 2026, Paris 2024, and the Los Angeles 1984 heritage collection. Examples included Milano Cortina’s Cheering Milo Mascot and Pizza pins, Paris 2024 mascot and pictogram pins, and Los Angeles 1984 heritage pins. These are examples shown in a changeable shop listing, not a guarantee of current stock, price, or shipping availability. Check the IOC shop’s Olympic pins listing before buying.
For a marketplace search, “Olympic trading pins” is a useful phrase. A listing may be an official licensed product or a collector resale, so verify the exact Games and design, seller, condition, provenance, and markings. A product title alone does not prove that a pin is official; the sources here do not verify any particular marketplace listing.

How to assess whether an Olympic pin is official
Start with the pin’s stated maker or licensee, event-specific marks, seller history, and a clear account of where it came from. AP reported that Honav owner Mario Simonson said Honav-produced pins for Milano Cortina 2026 carried a Honav backstamp. That is a clue specific to pins Honav produced for those Games—not a universal authentication rule, and a backstamp alone is not independent proof of authenticity. Simonson also told AP that pins without the official features he described had “zero value” for serious traders; treat that as his opinion, not an objective valuation rule.
When a pin is sold as official, ask what supports the claim and compare its details with an official product listing or reliable provenance. Be cautious about claims of rarity, certificates, or value that a seller cannot substantiate.

What Olympic pin collectors trade—and how to start
Collectors trade pins that reflect different teams, sponsors, media organizations, host locations, and Games. What attracts a trading partner depends on that person’s interests; a pin’s scarcity does not guarantee that someone will want to swap for it. If you are starting out, bring pins you are comfortable trading and decide which ones you intend to keep.
Storage and display can become useful as a collection grows. A pin book, display case, or trading board may help organize pins, but the cited reporting does not evaluate particular accessories or establish which storage method is best. Treat them as practical extras, not as part of a pin’s authenticity or value.

What the Milano Cortina pin rush does—and does not—show
AP’s February 11, 2026, report documents a concentrated burst of pin collecting and trading at particular Milano locations and an official trading center. It does not provide a representative measure of worldwide participation, a long-term growth trend, or a market study of pin prices. Mark Gabriel, a Warner Bros. consumer products executive, told AP that “the whole pin trading community is very tight” and forecast trading would “reach a fever pitch” on the Games’ second weekend; the latter was a forecast, not a measured result.
