A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11If your podcast playlist uses OBS’s VLC Video source, first check whether a scene change is hiding that source: its documented default behavior is to stop playback while hidden and restart when visible. If playback stops at the end of a track or playlist, check the loop setting instead. If the source keeps playing in OBS but viewers lose the audio, investigate audio routing, encoder output and connection separately. The exact cause depends on what is stopping, your source type and your OBS setup.
First identify what “stops” means
When the dropout happens, check the source playback position or controls, its audio meter, what you hear through your speakers, and whether a brief local recording contains the podcast. Those clues separate a stopped source from a monitoring problem or a problem with what reaches YouTube.
- The source itself stops: Check the source type, playlist loop setting, media file and whether a scene change made the source invisible.
- Only your speakers go quiet: Check local audio monitoring. The source meter or stream mix may still be active.
- OBS and a local recording sound normal, but viewers hear a dropout: Check audio routing, encoder output and YouTube’s live dashboard before treating it as a source playback problem.
A 2020 OBS issue report describes intermittent monitoring loss after scene changes while the reporter said the meter showed audio playing in the stream. That is one user report, not evidence of a universal OBS bug or a guaranteed fix.
Check the OBS source and its playback settings
If you are using VLC Video for a playlist
OBS’s VLC Video source supports playlists and requires VLC to be installed. Open the source’s properties and confirm that the intended items are present and in the right order. Then check these settings:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Loop Playlist: OBS documents this as On by default. Turn it on if playback should repeat after the playlist ends.
- Visibility Behaviour: The documented default is “Stop when not visible, restart when visible.” If a scene transition hides the source but the playlist must continue, change this behavior so hiding the source does not stop playback.
- Shuffle Playlist: OBS documents this as Off by default. Check it if the items are playing in an unexpected order.
If VLC Video is missing from the source list or cannot be used, check the VLC installation. OBS says 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. This is a dependency check; by itself, a missing or mismatched installation does not establish why a playlist stopped mid-stream.
If you are using Media Source
OBS’s built-in Media Source handles an individual audio or video file; it is not the playlist-capable VLC Video source. Confirm that Media Source points to the intended local file and that its Loop property matches whether you want that file to repeat. If you need a playlist, check whether you meant to add VLC Video instead.

Reproduce the problem and separate playback from delivery
- Note the trigger. Record whether the dropout follows a scene change, occurs at a file or playlist boundary, or happens without an obvious transition. Note the source type and the OBS version and operating system.
- Watch the source and meter during a brief test. If the source position stops, focus on its media and playback settings. If the source continues but the meter stops moving, investigate the source’s audio.
- Make a short local recording while reproducing the issue. If it also loses the podcast, concentrate on the OBS source, file, playlist and scene behavior. If it contains the audio but the YouTube viewer does not hear it, investigate the stream mix and delivery. This is a diagnostic clue, not a guarantee that every recording captures every output identically.
- Inspect OBS’s encoded output and audio routing. Confirm the intended audio source is routed to the stream. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends using the latest encoder version and inspecting output from the encoder.
- Check YouTube’s live dashboard and encoder load. If the local encoder output is also faulty, check encoder errors, CPU load and the local archive. If the encoder output looks and sounds healthy, test the outbound internet connection; YouTube says a healthy-looking stream can still have an outbound connection issue.
Distinguish dropped frames from a stopped playlist
OBS describes dropped frames as a sign that the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot sustain the configured bitrate. OBS drops frames to avoid buffering and keep the stream playing. That points to stream delivery, not necessarily to the reason an individual local playlist source stops. If the source position itself halts when it becomes hidden, investigate visibility behavior even if the network is also having trouble.

- OBS version and operating system
- Whether the source is VLC Video or Media Source
- Whether the playlist position stops, the meter stops, or only local monitoring becomes silent
- Whether a scene transition or playlist boundary precedes the problem
- Whether a local recording contains the podcast and whether YouTube’s dashboard reports encoder or connection problems
These observations make it easier to identify whether the issue is playback, monitoring, audio routing or delivery, rather than guessing from the fact that viewers heard silence.
