First check whether playback actually stopped in OBS: if OBS continues playing but YouTube reports dropped frames or disconnections, investigate the connection to YouTube rather than the media source.
First identify what stopped
Compare OBS’s preview or local recording with YouTube’s stream health. A blank or frozen picture in OBS points toward the source, file, or playback settings. If the video continues in OBS but YouTube reports dropped frames or interruptions, the issue is more likely the outgoing connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. OBS treats dropped frames as a connection or bitrate problem, not proof that a local video ended. OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting
| What you see | Check first | Next step |

| The picture stops at the end of a video | Repeat setting for the source type | For Media Source, check “Loop”; for VLC Video Source, check “Loop Playlist.” OBS Media Sources |

Check the source type and its repeat setting
Media Source: one local file
OBS Media Source plays a local media file. Open its properties and turn on “Loop” if the file should replay when it reaches the end. “Show nothing when playback ends” controls what is displayed after playback completes; it does not make the file repeat. OBS Media Sources
VLC Video Source: a playlist
VLC Video Source is the playlist option. Check “Loop Playlist” if the playlist should start again after its last item. VLC Video Source depends on VLC libraries, and OBS says VLC must be installed for the source to be available. Also verify that every playlist item still points to a file that exists and can be read. - Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
These controls are not interchangeable: a single Media Source uses “Loop,” while a VLC playlist uses “Loop Playlist.” Check the setting for the source you actually added, rather than assuming that one repeat option governs both.
Check what happens when the source is hidden
If playback changes when you switch scenes, inspect how the source behaves while it is not visible. Depending on the selected visibility behavior, VLC Video Source playback can stop, pause, restart, or resume when the source is hidden and shown again. Test by keeping the source visible during a scene switch, then choose the behavior that matches the broadcast you want. OBS Media Sources

Separate playback trouble from stream trouble
When the image freezes or goes blank in the OBS preview or local recording, focus on the source type, file path, and playback behavior. If local playback continues normally while YouTube shows dropped frames or disconnections, troubleshoot the connection and the bitrate it can sustain instead. OBS notes that dropped frames concern delivery to the remote ingest server; they do not establish that the local media stopped. OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting
The symptom alone does not establish a codec, hardware-decoding, operating-system, or OBS-bug cause. OBS exposes a hardware-decoding option, but that fact does not make it a proven general fix for 24/7 playback stops. If the checks above do not identify the cause, the source type, operating system, OBS version, exact symptom, OBS log, and YouTube stream-health status are useful details for further diagnosis.

Protect a 24/7 broadcast and its archive
Do not treat YouTube’s archive as the only copy of a long broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local recording backup. YouTube also warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.
