First identify how the VOD is playing: an OBS VLC Video playlist, a YouTube player in a browser, or another OBS source. Each uses different controls, so there is no single confirmed cause for an unspecified setup. If you use VLC Video, check its playlist and visibility settings; if you use YouTube’s player, check Autoplay on the device controlling playback. Then compare OBS’s preview with the live output to see whether the issue is playback or stream delivery.
Identify the playback path
Before changing settings, determine which app or source is responsible for moving from one VOD to the next. OBS’s VLC Video source has its own playlist controls. YouTube playback is controlled by YouTube’s player, while other OBS media sources may not use either set of controls.

If you use OBS VLC Video
OBS documents VLC Video as a playlist-capable source that uses VLC libraries. The OBS media-sources guide, dated January 11, 2022, lists the relevant playlist and visibility controls; labels may vary in later OBS versions. See OBS Project’s Media Sources guide.
Check the playlist and its order
- Select the VLC Video source in OBS and open its properties.
- Confirm that every gaming VOD you expect to play is in the playlist. Check that the files or media entries are available and that their order is what you intend.
- If the clips should play in a fixed sequence, make sure Shuffle Playlist is off. OBS documents shuffle as off by default.
- Decide whether the list should repeat after its last item. OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default; turn it off if you want playback to stop at the end of the list.
These settings control the VLC playlist. They will not fix Autoplay in a YouTube browser player.

Check whether the source is hidden during a scene change
A VLC Video source can stop advancing if it is hidden as OBS switches scenes. OBS documents the default Visibility Behaviour as “Stop when not visible, restart when visible.” Its other documented choices include pausing and resuming, or continuing to play while invisible.
- Open the VLC Video source’s properties and find Visibility Behaviour.
- If the source should keep playing while its scene is hidden, choose the behavior that matches that goal: pause and resume, or always play while invisible.
- If it should restart whenever it becomes visible, the documented default may be appropriate. Test a scene switch and watch the preview to confirm the behavior you want.
Check the VLC dependency only if the source is unavailable
OBS says VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to appear, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. This dependency is relevant when VLC Video is missing or unavailable; it does not establish that installing VLC will fix an existing source that fails to advance.

If you use YouTube’s player
Check Autoplay in the YouTube player that is actually controlling the VOD sequence. YouTube notes that Autoplay settings can differ between devices, so enabling it on a phone does not establish that it is enabled on the computer or player used for the stream. Follow YouTube Help’s Autoplay instructions on the relevant device.
Use OBS preview to separate playback from delivery
- Watch the OBS preview as the current VOD ends. Note whether the next item appears, stays black, freezes on the previous frame, or never starts.
- Compare the preview with what viewers see on the live YouTube output.
- If the next VOD fails in the preview too, focus first on the playback source, its playlist or player settings, and any scene visibility changes.
- If the preview advances correctly but the live output does not, inspect OBS’s stream-health indicators and connection diagnostics. This comparison helps separate a local source transition from a delivery problem, but it is not a guaranteed diagnosis.
OBS describes rising dropped frames as a connection-to-streaming-service issue, rather than a playlist-advance setting. Its Help Portal says increasing dropped frames with a yellow or red connection indicator means the connection to the server is unstable or cannot keep up with the set bitrate.

What to record if the problem persists
For an unresolved issue, capture the details that distinguish one playback path from another before seeking support:
- OBS version and operating system.
- Exact source type, such as VLC Video, a browser source, or another media source.
- Playlist item types and order, plus whether the current item finishes.
- Whether the source is hidden during a scene change and its visibility setting.
- Whether the failure appears in OBS preview, only in the outgoing YouTube stream, or both.
- Any stream-health or dropped-frame changes at the time of failure.
OBS directs users with unresolved problems to its support resources. The available official materials do not establish a current OBS bug specific to this symptom.

A historical VLC playlist report is not proof of a current bug
An OBS issue opened on September 4, 2020 describes a particular mixed video-and-audio VLC playlist problem on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Build 19041, using OBS 25.0.8 and 26.0.0-rc1. The reporter said that after a video ended or “Next in Playlist” was pressed, the old video frame could remain while the next audio item played, alongside audio-monitoring irregularities. This is a narrow report about old versions, not evidence that current OBS generally fails to advance gaming VODs. See OBS Studio issue #3410.
