If a YouTube gaming livestream disappears from a VOD playlist, first check whether its archive still exists in YouTube Studio: a missing playlist entry alone does not prove the video was deleted. In YouTube Studio, open Content > Live, find the ended stream, and check its visibility. If there is no archive there, look for a local recording; YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured.
Check whether the archive still exists
For the channel owner
- Sign in to the Google account that manages the correct YouTube channel. If you manage more than one channel, confirm the selected channel before searching.
- In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live and look for the ended broadcast. YouTube documents managing livestream archive visibility from this area. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
- If you find the stream, open its details and inspect its visibility. Change it only if that suits your intended audience, then share the archive link if viewers cannot find it.
For a viewer
Ask the channel owner to confirm whether the archive exists and whether it is public, unlisted, or private. If it is unlisted, you need the link; it normally will not appear in the channel’s Videos tab or YouTube search. A private video is restricted to its owner and people specifically granted access, so an old link alone will not let other viewers watch it. YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings
If the owner says the archive is public but you still cannot open it, ask them to verify the link and visibility in Studio. A playlist losing its entry does not by itself establish that the archive was removed.
If the stream is absent from YouTube Studio
Check the stream duration
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. It warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is a possibility, not a guarantee that every shorter stream will have an archive. YouTube Help: Archive live streams

Search for a local recording
Check the streaming computer’s configured recording destination, external drives, and any backup location used during the broadcast. A local copy exists only if recording was enabled and the resulting file is intact. YouTube advises checking that the local archive file is valid and that its size is growing while the stream is running. YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips
If you locate a usable recording, preserve the original and make a separate backup before editing or uploading it. External storage can help keep a future backup, but it cannot recover a stream that was never recorded locally.

Ask about creator support, without assuming restoration
If neither YouTube Studio nor local storage has the video, eligible creators can contact Creator Support about a livestream archive. Availability depends on access to that support, and YouTube’s published guidance does not promise that a deleted or uncaptured stream can be restored. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
Do not confuse DVR or Live Redirect with archive recovery
DVR affects playback during a live broadcast
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind while a stream is live. Rewind can be limited or unavailable on very long streams. Turning DVR off does not prevent a recording of the full stream from becoming available once it is ready, so changing DVR is not a fix for a missing post-stream VOD. Live Redirect routes viewers elsewhere
Live Redirect can send viewers to a Premiere or another live stream when the current broadcast ends; it does not retrieve a past archive. YouTube says creators need more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes to send redirects. YouTube Help: How to use YouTube Live Redirect
Check notices if the broadcast was interrupted
If the stream ended unexpectedly, inspect YouTube Studio for copyright or policy notices. Third-party content can interrupt or terminate a livestream, and Content ID claims may be made after an archived stream ends. Prevent losing the next gaming VOD
- Record locally as well as streaming. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive as backup. Before going live, confirm the recording destination has enough available space for the expected stream and that recording is enabled. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
- Verify that the file is being written. During the broadcast, check that the local recording exists and its size is growing. Afterward, open or otherwise validate the file before relying on it as your only backup. YouTube Help: YouTube live streaming tips
- Keep a separate copy. Copy the finished recording to external storage or another backup location, particularly before deleting or replacing the original.
- Plan around the 12-hour guidance. Because YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured, do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive as the only copy of a longer broadcast.
- Check visibility after the stream. Confirm the archive’s setting in Studio and give viewers the correct link if it is unlisted.
