Why did Nicki Minaj cancel?
In a statement reproduced by HotNews, Minaj wrote: “Out of concern for the well-being of our team and myself, I have been advised by my security detail not to travel to Romania’s festival tonight due to safety concerns regarding protests in the area.” She cited her security detail’s advice and concerns about protests, but did not identify a specific demonstration or describe the underlying security assessment.
What protest was planned in Bucharest?
HotNews identified an accountants’ demonstration called “Fără haos în legislaţia fiscală,” organized by Patronatul Antreprenorilor Contabili din România. It was scheduled for Monday, July 8, at 8:30 a.m. in Piața Victoriei—after Minaj’s planned Sunday-night performance. Euronews likewise reported that Minaj had not specified which protest she meant. The accountants’ demonstration is therefore relevant local context, not a protest she publicly named as the reason for canceling.

Euronews relayed a contemporaneous Crisis24 forecast that several hundred to a low thousands of people might attend, with the demonstration likely to be peaceful and localized transport disruption possible. That was a pre-event forecast, not a verified turnout or account of what actually happened, and it does not establish what Minaj’s security detail advised.
What did SAGA say about the cancellation?
In its announcement, the festival said the performance was canceled over concerns for Minaj’s and her team’s well-being, said the matter was beyond its control, and announced refunds for unscanned Sunday tickets. SAGA’s statement, reported by Euronews, said: “This has nothing to do with SAGA, and is beyond our powers.”

He said organizers sought help from authorities to reassure her representatives.
