Milly Alcock’s giggling and pointing during House of the Dragon’s Golden Globes acceptance speech became a viral meme in January 2023. Viewers speculated that she was drunk, but the coverage cited here does not establish that she was intoxicated.
What happened at the Golden Globes?
At the 80th Golden Globe Awards on January 10, 2023, House of the Dragon won Best Television Series – Drama. Director Miguel Sapochnik accepted the award alongside cast members including Alcock and Emma D’Arcy. Contemporary coverage described Alcock giggling and pointing while the acceptance was underway. Why did the moment become a meme?
The clip circulated online the next day, with viewers reacting to Alcock’s animated behavior. Some posts and entertainment headlines framed her as drunk; a Belgian report captured the uncertainty in the question, “Elle est saoule ou nerveuse ?” (“Is she drunk or nervous?”). Those descriptions record audience speculation, not a verified explanation for what viewers saw. [c002] [c005]
Did Milly Alcock confirm she was drunk?
The sources cited in contemporary coverage do not establish that Alcock was intoxicated, and they do not provide a direct statement from her confirming or denying it. Just Jared reported that she later reposted a photo of herself giggling to Instagram Stories with the caption “Ummmm.” That ambiguous caption is not a definitive admission. [c003]
