He returned to Clarence House, and engagements were postponed or rescheduled on medical advice. The Palace did not identify the side effects or disclose the type of cancer.
Why was King Charles hospitalized?
In a statement reproduced by the Associated Press on 27 March 2025, Buckingham Palace said: “Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, the King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital.” The statement described a short period of observation, not a prolonged stay, and did not specify what symptoms prompted it. Associated Press, 27 March 2025
What happened after the hospital observation?
The Palace said Charles returned to Clarence House. His afternoon engagements were postponed, and the following day’s programme was to be rescheduled on medical advice. The Associated Press reported on 28 March that he had resumed desk work and calls; that was a contemporaneous account, not an independent medical assessment. Associated Press, 28 March 2025
What side effects did he have?
The Palace did not name the side effects, and the available statement provides no basis for identifying particular symptoms or assessing their medical cause. Claims about a specific reaction or its severity beyond the Palace’s description of temporary effects requiring short observation are not established by that account.

What type of cancer does King Charles have?
Buckingham Palace announced on 6 February 2024 that diagnostic tests had identified “a form of cancer.” The Palace said the cancer was discovered after a separate issue was noted during a hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement. It did not name the cancer type; the earlier prostate procedure does not establish that the King had prostate cancer. The Royal Family, 6 February 2024

No. The hospitalization and treatment details above concern the events reported on 27 March 2025. The Royal Family’s press-release index, accessed 8 October 2026, includes official activity and schedule-related items, but a diary listing is not a medical update and does not establish whether Charles is currently receiving treatment or personally undertook a particular engagement.
