Some Perth fans objected to the phone-free policy planned for Kevin Hart’s Acting My Age show at RAC Arena, while others welcomed a performance without phones in view. The debate concerned access to personal devices—not the comedy itself—and the comments reported at the time do not establish that Perth residents generally were outraged.
What happened at RAC Arena
PerthNow reported on September 18, 2025, that Kevin Hart’s Perth performance was scheduled for September 23. The phone-free policy had been communicated when the tour was announced in July, but a Facebook notice from RAC Arena earlier that week brought it to local commenters’ attention. The Perth date was scheduled as the first of Hart’s three Australian tour shows, ahead of Melbourne and Sydney.

The policy notice said Yondr pouches would be used for phones and certain accessories, including smart watches, AirPods and Meta glasses. Guests would keep their phones and could use designated unlocking stations if they needed access during the event. The venue also advised attendees to allow extra time, bring a physical credit card for food and drink purchases, and print their PDF tickets. PerthNow reported that infrared cameras would be used to identify attempted recording.
Why some fans objected
Critical commenters focused on personal access and autonomy. One questioned whether it was ethically acceptable to remove the ability to contact or be contacted, while acknowledging the aim of keeping the audience focused. Another called the policy “a joke” and compared it unfavourably with the arrangements at another comedian’s show.

Those remarks were individual social-media comments selected for the report, not a poll or a representative measure of local opinion. PerthNow did not provide a count of commenters or quantify how many people supported or opposed the policy.
Why others supported the policy
Some commenters said people should be able to enjoy a few hours without their phones. Another recalled that a previous Hart performance had been better without a sea of phones in view. Their priority was an audience less distracted by screens and recording.
The disagreement came down to two competing priorities: keeping reliable access to a personal device and the people who might need to reach its owner, versus limiting screens and interruptions during a live performance. The report documents both views but does not show how common either was.
What Live Nation said
Live Nation, identified by PerthNow as Hart’s Australian promoter, said phone-free arrangements were common at comedy events. The promoter said locking devices away was intended to let audiences enjoy the performance in the moment, protect the integrity of the material and keep the room distraction-free for comedians and fans.

Live Nation also said attendees kept possession of their phones, could access them at designated unlocking stations if needed, and acknowledged the terms and conditions before completing ticket purchases. These were the promoter’s stated reasons for the policy, not independent evidence that every attendee experienced those benefits.

The headline description of Perth as outraged overstates what the report established. It documented a divided set of commenters: some objected to restrictions on phone access, while others welcomed a phone-free audience. It reported no poll, representative sample or public-opinion statistic. The controversy was about the event’s device policy, not a reported cancellation, change to the show or complaint about Hart’s comedy.
Rank #4
- KEVIN HART: LET ME EXPLAIN captures the laughter, energy and mayhem from Hart?s 2012 Let Me Explain concert tour, which spanned 10 countries and 80 cities, and generated over $32 million in ticket sales.
The Perth performance was scheduled for September 23, 2025, so the dispute is historical rather than a current event.
