Hallmark attributed the change to scheduling conflicts while Wallace pursued another opportunity, Landman. Spoilers for season 11 of When Calls the Heart: Kayla Wallace did not reportedly quit When Calls the Heart, nor was Fiona Miller killed off. Wallace was absent from most of season 11 because of scheduling conflicts while she pursued another acting opportunity, according to a Hallmark representative and comments from Erin Krakow. That opportunity was Landman, the Paramount+ oil-industry drama in which Wallace played Rebecca Falcone.
The show addressed Fiona’s absence through a telegram in the season 11 premiere, then brought her back for the finale. Krakow’s comments suggested that the production hoped Wallace could return when her schedule allowed—and Fiona’s appearance at Mei and Mike’s wedding confirmed that the season 11 reduction was not a permanent departure.
What happened to Fiona Miller in season 11?
When season 11 began in April 2024, Fiona was not in Hope Valley. Rather than staging a dramatic farewell or writing the character out through a death, the premiere explained that Fiona was continuing her work with her sister and the suffragettes.

Minnie tells Faith that Fiona has sent a telegram explaining that there is still work to do for women’s rights. The explanation keeps Fiona active elsewhere while accounting for her absence from the community. It also leaves open the possibility that she can return.
Fiona’s connections to Hope Valley were not erased. In the premiere, Elizabeth still discusses making a salon appointment for when Fiona comes back. That detail matters: the series treated Fiona as someone temporarily away, not as a character whose story had definitively ended. Hallmark’s official season 11 premiere recap documents both the telegram explanation and the continuing references to Fiona’s salon.
Why was Kayla Wallace missing?
The behind-the-scenes explanation was scheduling. A Hallmark representative told TVLine that Wallace had another career opportunity while season 11 was being filmed, creating conflicts with her When Calls the Heart availability.
That opportunity was Landman, Taylor Sheridan’s Paramount+ drama about the oil industry. Paramount’s official cast material identifies Wallace as Rebecca Falcone, an ambitious liability lawyer connected to the M-Tex oil company, and also identifies her as Fiona Miller from When Calls the Heart. Viewers interested in Wallace’s other role can find the character information in Paramount+’s official Landman cast guide.

The evidence supports a careful conclusion, not a more specific one. Hallmark attributed Wallace’s reduced season 11 presence to scheduling conflicts, and Landman was the publicly identified competing opportunity. No authoritative source establishes that every absent episode resulted from a particular overlap in filming dates, and Wallace’s private contract terms and complete production calendar have not been published.
What did Erin Krakow say?
Erin Krakow, who stars as Elizabeth Thornton and also serves as an executive producer on the series, indicated that the cast and production wanted Fiona to return for selected episodes if Wallace’s schedule permitted. Her comments, as reported by TVLine, point to a practical availability problem rather than a reported creative dispute or a decision to end Wallace’s role.
Krakow’s wording is important because it expressed hope rather than a guarantee. It did not promise that Wallace would immediately resume a full-time role, and it did not establish a permanent season-by-season arrangement. It did, however, make clear that the door was not being treated as closed.
Did Kayla Wallace return to When Calls the Heart?
Yes. Wallace returned as Fiona in the season 11 finale, “Anything for Love.” Fiona comes back to Hope Valley for Mei and Mike’s wedding, participates in the celebration, and gives a toast. Hallmark’s official finale recap confirms the appearance.

That return resolves the biggest uncertainty created by the premiere. Fiona was away for much of the season, but she had not been permanently removed from the series. Her return also fits the way the show handled the character’s absence: Fiona was said to be working elsewhere, her salon remained part of the conversation, and her eventual reappearance was built into the season’s available story path.
Why did the departure feel abrupt to viewers?
Fiona had become an established Hope Valley resident, so her sudden physical absence was noticeable. The premiere introduced the change inside the story through dialogue and a telegram rather than through a prominent public casting announcement. Viewers therefore encountered the new status while watching the episode, with little advance explanation about Wallace’s production availability.
The character’s relationships also remained visible even when she did not. Minnie and Faith discussed Fiona, Elizabeth referred to the salon, and the suffrage storyline gave her absence a continuing purpose. Those details made it clear that Fiona still mattered to the show, but they could also make the reduced role feel like an unexpected interruption rather than a fully announced transition.
Hallmark’s official Kayla Wallace cast page continues to associate her with Fiona Miller. Combined with the season 11 finale appearance, that is stronger evidence for a temporary or schedule-limited absence than for a definitive exit.

The accurate way to describe Wallace’s season 11 status
| Claim | What the available evidence supports |
|---|---|
| Wallace quit the series | Not supported by the cited reporting or by Fiona’s season 11 return. |
| Hallmark fired Wallace | Not supported. |
| Fiona was permanently written out | Not supported; Fiona appears in the season 11 finale. |
| Wallace had a scheduling conflict | Supported by Hallmark’s explanation reported by TVLine. |
| Landman was the other opportunity | Supported as the publicly identified project associated with the change, though exact filming overlaps are not documented. |
| Wallace was guaranteed a full-time return | Not supported. Krakow expressed hope for future appearances, not a firm commitment. |
So, while “abrupt exit” accurately describes how Fiona’s absence felt to some viewers, it should not be read as “permanent departure.” The most precise summary is that Kayla Wallace’s availability was limited during production of much of season 11, the show supplied Fiona with an in-story reason to be away, and Wallace returned for the finale.
Where can viewers see Kayla Wallace next?
Wallace’s other prominently associated project is Landman, where she plays Rebecca Falcone. It is a separate series and should not be treated as proof of a specific episode-by-episode filming conflict. It does, however, provide the clearest context for why her schedule became part of the When Calls the Heart conversation.
Fans who want to revisit Fiona’s absence and return should check Hallmark’s current, region-specific availability for season 11. Streaming rights, episode access, and physical editions can change, so the official Hallmark episode pages are the safest starting point for confirming where the relevant episodes can be watched.
