Jennifer Aniston has said she tried to become pregnant, including through IVF, but did not have children. She has described the experience as difficult and rejected claims that she chose her career over motherhood or that a husband left because she would not have a child. Her account does not include a specific diagnosis or detailed treatment history.
What Jennifer Aniston has said about trying to have a child
In a December 2022 interview with Allure, Aniston said, “I was trying to get pregnant.” She disclosed that she had undergone IVF and had also tried Chinese teas. She called the experience “a challenging road” and said she had wished someone had spoken with her earlier about egg freezing.
That last remark was a personal reflection, not a medical recommendation or evidence that egg freezing would have changed her outcome. The interview does not give a diagnosis, the number of IVF cycles, clinical details or a precise timeline.
What she said about the rumors
Aniston said public speculation about her reproductive life had been painful. She rejected the characterization that she was selfish or cared only about work, and called the claim that a husband left because she would not have a child “absolute lies.” The available reporting does not establish that claim as an explanation for either marriage ending, so it should not be treated as fact or assigned to a particular marriage.

In a 2025 follow-up, TV Insider’s account of Aniston’s Harper’s Bazaar UK interview quoted her saying that people “didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family.” She said the “selfish, a workaholic” narrative affected her. She also explained that she spoke in part because she knew other women dealing with IVF, while becoming less inclined to correct every rumor. The “20 years” is her description of her own experience, not a general fertility statistic. TV Insider’s 2025 report is a secondary account of that interview.
Did she choose her career over having children?
No. Aniston has expressly rejected that premise. Her account is that she tried to have a child and underwent IVF; the sources do not support reducing what happened to a choice between work and motherhood.

Aniston has shared some of her experience, but not private medical records or a full treatment history. The reporting does not establish a fertility diagnosis, number of treatment cycles or the precise timing of her attempts. Those details should not be inferred from the fact that she underwent IVF.
The subject had drawn public attention before her disclosure. In 2016, Aniston published an op-ed criticizing pregnancy speculation and scrutiny of women’s bodies; the Los Angeles Times recalled that context in its November 2022 coverage. The more useful takeaway is not a theory about Aniston’s private life, but the distinction between what she chose to share and what remains hers to keep private.
