India is listed as a location where YouTube channel memberships are available, but that does not guarantee that membership gifting is enabled for every channel or visible in every context. First check your channel’s membership eligibility and activation in YouTube Studio; then test gifting during an eligible live stream or Premiere. The official YouTube Help pages reviewed do not establish a separate India-wide restriction on channel membership gifting.
First, distinguish memberships from membership gifting
Channel memberships let eligible creators offer recurring paid memberships. Membership gifting is a separate feature: viewers can give temporary memberships during eligible live streams or Premieres, and viewers who want to receive gifts must opt in. Having memberships available or active on a channel does not, by itself, establish that gifting is enabled or that the gift option will appear in every situation.
YouTube Help says that, after opting in, a viewer is “eligible to receive gift memberships from any channel with gifting enabled that you’re subscribed to and have interacted with recently.” Eligibility to receive gifts therefore also depends on the viewer’s opt-in and relationship with the channel.
Check whether your channel can offer memberships
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Go to Earn → Memberships. YouTube says the Memberships tab appears only for channels that are eligible. If you cannot find it, investigate channel eligibility before troubleshooting the gifting control.
- Review the current membership requirements. YouTube Help’s eligibility page, accessed October 3, 2026, lists 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the past 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days for the lower YouTube Partner Program access tier that includes channel memberships. Other conditions also apply, including age, location, agreement, and channel-content requirements. Check YouTube’s live eligibility page because these thresholds and requirements can change.
- Complete membership setup. If the tab is available, follow the setup prompts and accept the Commerce Product Module. YouTube says activation after acceptance into the YouTube Partner Program may take up to two days while eligibility is reviewed.
- Confirm memberships are turned on. A channel that has not completed setup or activated memberships should resolve that status before expecting gifting to work.
Test gifting in the right context
YouTube’s instructions place membership gifting in live-stream or Premiere chat on a channel where gifting is turned on. Test there rather than assuming that the gifting option should appear on a regular video page or in every viewing context. Check the current Studio prompts and the stream or Premiere settings if the option is missing.

What India’s availability does—and does not—tell you
YouTube’s channel-membership availability information lists India. That supports the conclusion that India is available for channel memberships generally; it does not confirm gifting eligibility for a particular channel or establish a country list or rollout rule specific to membership gifting. The official help pages reviewed do not say that India is categorically excluded, nor do they identify a definitive India-specific reason why gifting might be absent on an otherwise eligible channel.
Do not confuse membership gifting with YouTube’s separate Jewels-powered gifts feature. YouTube’s creator-availability information for Jewels lists India, but that is a different feature and does not establish whether channel membership gifting is available to your channel.

Troubleshoot a country-verification error
If YouTube displays “We couldn’t verify your country,” treat it as a country-verification problem rather than proof that membership gifting is unavailable in India. YouTube advises trying another network or device and checking whether a VPN or proxy is active. If you use one, turn it off according to its provider’s instructions and try again.
YouTube also notes that recurring memberships in India may require payment-detail verification or re-entry under Reserve Bank of India eMandate requirements. That guidance concerns recurring-payment issues; it is not, on its own, an explanation for a missing gifting control.

If memberships work but gifting is still missing
- Make sure you are checking during a live stream or Premiere, and that gifting is enabled for the channel.
- Check the relevant Studio prompts for your channel’s current membership and gifting status.
- If the channel appears eligible and memberships are active but gifting still does not show, contact YouTube support for a channel-specific answer. The official guidance reviewed does not identify a definitive India-specific cause.
