Crave problems on Roku are usually caused by location or account restrictions, an app or Roku software issue, an unstable network, or a temporary Crave interruption—not necessarily a faulty device. Start by checking whether Crave is available where you are, then test another Roku app and another Crave title. Those two checks help identify which fix to try next.
First, check whether Crave is available where you are
Crave is intended for viewers in Canada; its Canadian app listing says the service is available only in Canada (Crave’s Canadian app listing). If you are in the United States or travelling outside Canada, a Roku device or active subscription may not be enough to make Crave available. A VPN can also interfere with location checks, authentication, or playback, so turn it off while troubleshooting.
A Crave channel has appeared on Roku, but that does not guarantee availability on every Roku model, software version, account region, or subscription plan. If you cannot find Crave in the Channel Store, check that your Roku is configured for the Canadian market and that its system software is current. Region and account changes can affect billing or device setup; they are not necessarily a simple supported toggle. Avoid unofficial downloads or services claiming they can activate Crave.
Identify the symptom before changing anything
- Crave is missing from the Channel Store: Check location/account region and Roku system updates.
- The app crashes, shows a black screen, or stays loading: Check the connection, update the app, restart Roku, then consider reinstalling.
- Login or activation fails: Confirm you are using the right Crave account or television-provider sign-in.
- Crave says the subscription is inactive: Verify which email and billing route hold the subscription before paying again.
- One film or episode fails: Try other titles first; the issue may be specific to that program.
- Everything buffers or looks poor: Test other apps and investigate the network before replacing hardware.
Run a quick isolation test
- Open another streaming app on the same Roku.
- Try a different title in Crave.
- If possible, try Crave on a phone or computer using the same account.
- Check Crave’s official support communications for a service interruption.
If several Roku apps fail, focus on the Roku connection, router, or system software. If other Roku apps work but every Crave title fails, the problem is more likely Crave-specific, account-related, or an interruption. If Crave fails on multiple devices too, investigate Crave service status, subscription, or location. If only one title fails, do not assume the Roku is defective. Roku recommends trying other videos and checking with the provider when an app’s playback issue persists (Roku playback troubleshooting).

Fix Crave on Roku in this order
1. Check the Roku’s network connection
- Press Home on the remote.
- Open Settings > Network > About.
- Confirm that the Roku is connected to Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Use the connection-check option if shown.
- If the connection is missing or unstable, reconnect to the network.
Then pause large downloads, game updates, cloud backups, or other streams temporarily. If practical, move the Roku closer to the router, restart the modem/router, or try Ethernet if your Roku model and setup support it. Wi-Fi interference and congestion can cause buffering even when a speed test looks adequate; a faster internet plan is not automatically the solution.
2. Check for a Crave app update
- From the Roku Home screen, highlight Crave.
- Press the Star button.
- Select Check for Updates.
- After the update finishes, reopen Crave.

3. Update Roku system software
Especially if Crave is missing, will not install, or behaves inconsistently, open Settings > System > System update > Check now. Let any update finish, then try Crave again. Roku recommends checking for a system update when an app does not appear in the Channel Store (Roku’s app-installation guidance). Menu wording can vary slightly by model and software version.
4. Restart Roku
Use Settings > System > Power > System restart if the Power menu is shown; otherwise look for System restart under System. A full power cycle—unplugging the device briefly and reconnecting it—can also clear a stuck state. A restart is not a factory reset: do not factory-reset as an early Crave fix, since it removes device configuration and creates setup work.

5. Remove and reinstall Crave
- Highlight the Crave tile and press Star.
- Select Remove app and confirm.
- Restart Roku.
- Install Crave again from the Roku Channel Store and sign in.
Roku includes removing and reinstalling an app among its playback troubleshooting steps (Roku playback troubleshooting). Reinstallation can clear a damaged local app state, but it is not guaranteed to fix the issue. It may sign you out; it does not ordinarily cancel a subscription. Before making any billing changes, identify who bills you.
If Crave will not recognize your login or subscription
There are several possible account routes, and they are not interchangeable:

- Direct Crave subscription: Sign in using the account associated with your Crave billing receipt and manage billing with Crave.
- Roku Pay subscription: Check the Roku account that made the purchase at my.roku.com/subscriptions. Direct Crave subscriptions may not appear there.
- Television-provider subscription: Choose the provider sign-in or linking option rather than entering a standalone Crave login, if that is how your access is supplied.
If the subscription appears active in one place but Crave says it is inactive, check for multiple email addresses, a different Roku account, a failed payment, or an incomplete provider link. Could your Crave plan or device eligibility be the issue?
Crave’s plan structure and supported-device rules can change. If Crave works on a phone or browser but not Roku, plan or connected-device eligibility is one possibility, alongside an app problem, account-linking issue, or regional restriction. Check Crave’s current plan terms and supported-device information before upgrading. Reports of restrictions on some lower-cost plans are not enough to establish a universal rule, and a more expensive plan will not fix an outage, an unstable network, or a corrupted app.

If only one title fails—or playback buffers
When other Crave programs play, close and reopen the affected title, then try another episode or an unrelated film. If the failure is limited to one title, series, channel, or live event, report the title and exact error to Crave rather than resetting the Roku. For buffering or poor quality, check Settings > Network > About, reduce competing network use, restart the router and Roku, and test again later. Avoid starting with DNS changes or router replacement; they add complexity and may not address an account, region, or service problem.
When to contact Crave or Roku
Contact Crave for subscription recognition, provider login, repeated Crave-specific errors, a title-specific fault, or a suspected Crave-wide interruption. Contact Roku if the device cannot connect to Wi-Fi, multiple apps fail, a system update fails, the device repeatedly reboots, or a Roku Pay charge or subscription is in question.
Before contacting support, note the exact error wording or code, whether the app opens, whether all titles fail, your Roku model and system version, your country and account region, how the subscription is billed, and whether Crave works on another device. This helps support distinguish device, network, account, and service problems.
