IMDb’s rating page for Disney’s 2025 live-action Snow White was reported to carry a notice that its rating mechanism had detected unusual voting activity. The warning appeared amid a striking one-star-heavy rating snapshot, but it does not establish that votes were fake, coordinated, or cast by people who had not seen the film.
What did IMDb’s warning say?
The notice, reproduced in indexed IMDb material and contemporaneous coverage, said: “Our rating mechanism has detected unusual voting activity on this title.” It was reported on the film’s rating page. The direct IMDb page was inaccessible to the reporting reviewed here, so the wording is supported by indexed material and news coverage rather than a direct inspection of the page.
The notice identifies an activity pattern that IMDb’s mechanism detected. IMDb did not publicly explain the criteria behind that detection in the sources reviewed. It is therefore not a basis for claiming that IMDb found bots, invalid accounts, coordination, or any particular motive.
What did the March 2025 rating snapshots show?
The numbers published at the time were snapshots, not current ratings or final totals:

| Outlet and date | Reported figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| The Independent, March 30, 2025 | IMDb score of 1.5/10; 91.1% of ratings were one star | A rating snapshot reported that day. The Independent’s report |
| Forbes, March 29, 2025 | Approximately 227,000 IMDb reviews; score of 1.5/10; 91.1% one-star ratings | A review-count and rating snapshot reported that day. Forbes’ report |
The Independent also reported a 74% Rotten Tomatoes audience score on March 30. That is a separate platform’s figure, not a directly equivalent measurement: the outlets described differences in how the services handle ratings, including IMDb’s free voting by unverified users and Rotten Tomatoes’ verified-rating context. Those differences do not make either platform’s aggregate score a definitive measure of audience opinion.
Was Snow White review-bombed?
Contemporaneous outlets characterized the pattern as review bombing. The reported concentration of one-star ratings and IMDb’s warning support saying that the rating activity was unusual as described at the time. They do not, by themselves, show why individual users voted, whether voters acted together, whether accounts were authentic, or whether voters had watched the film. “Review bombing” is an interpretation of the pattern, not a finding about every vote.

Why was the film controversial?
In March 2025, TIME described several disputes surrounding the remake: casting, public comments by stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, the portrayal of dwarfs, and political disagreement connected to the actors. Disney’s film was scheduled for theatrical release on March 21, 2025. This context helps explain the intense attention around the title; it does not establish that any controversy caused a particular person to rate it, or that a particular group produced the unusual activity. TIME’s account of the controversies details those strands.

What the warning can—and cannot—tell viewers
- It can tell you: IMDb reported that its rating mechanism detected unusual voting activity on the title.
- It cannot tell you: the undisclosed detection criteria, the motives behind individual ratings, or whether voting was coordinated or inauthentic.
- For interpreting the scores: treat the March figures as dated platform snapshots, and keep IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes figures distinct rather than treating them as measurements of the same voter pool.
