Glen Powell brought UPS driver Mitch onstage during his Saturday Night Live opening monologue on November 15, 2025, to prove that he had really been invited to host years earlier. Powell said a planned 2021 Christmas episode was canceled after Top Gun: Maverick was delayed, leaving Mitch—the person he had told about the booking—to wonder whether Powell had made it up.
Why was Mitch the UPS driver onstage with Glen Powell?
Mitch was the UPS driver Powell had told about his original plan to host SNL. When the booking fell through, Powell joked that Mitch spent the next four years thinking he had invented the story. During the 2025 monologue, Powell flew Mitch to New York and brought him onstage so they could take a new selfie together.
Powell introduced the moment by saying, “But what feels even better is proving to this U.P.S. driver that I am not crazy.” He then explained, “So to prove to Mitch that I am not a liar, I flew him all the way to New York.” The quotations are attributed to Powell in a subtitle transcript of the episode, rather than an official NBC transcript.
What happened to Powell’s earlier hosting plan?
Powell said he had been invited to host the 2021 Christmas episode. Around that time, he told a UPS driver who came to his home about the booking. The plan changed after Top Gun: Maverick was delayed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Powell said SNL withdrew the offer. NBC News reported that the film reached audiences in spring 2022.

Powell’s joke captured the awkward gap between the announcement and the eventual appearance: “which means for four years, this U.P.S. driver was just going around saying, Glen Powell is a liar.” He also described the wait as, “I had to wait my entire life plus four years to be here.” Those lines come from the episode’s subtitle transcript.
When did Glen Powell finally host SNL?
Powell made his hosting debut on November 15, 2025. His sisters helped track down Mitch, and Powell flew him to New York for the show. The reunion and recreated selfie took place during the opening monologue; it was an anecdote and guest appearance, not a separate sketch.
