What Musk was calling on Netflix subscribers to do
The campaign was a social-media-driven boycott rather than a response to a current season launch. Musk amplified posts accusing Netflix of promoting a transgender or “woke” agenda aimed at children and urged subscribers to end their memberships.
Dead End: Paranormal Park became the central example because one of its main characters, Barney, is transgender. Musk and other critics also circulated criticism of Netflix’s wider LGBTQ-related programming. The campaign therefore attached a broader political argument about Netflix’s editorial choices to a show that had already ended.
Reporting by The Guardian described Musk reposting cancellation messages over several days. The campaign also pointed toward a Netflix Tudum feature published on March 31, 2025, titled “Celebrate Trans Day of Visibility with These 16 Movies and Shows.” Netflix’s own article presented transgender and nonbinary representation as a reason to highlight titles including Dead End: Paranormal Park, Big Mouth, The Umbrella Academy, and Baby Reindeer.
That establishes that Netflix publicly promoted transgender representation. It does not, by itself, establish the more serious claims made by boycott advocates—that the programming was intended to harm, manipulate, or indoctrinate children. Those are political characterizations, not findings demonstrated by Netflix’s listing or the available reporting.

Netflix describes Dead End: Paranormal Park as an animated supernatural comedy about two teenagers and a talking pug who battle demons at a haunted theme park. The series was created by Hamish Steele and features Zach Barack, Kody Kavitha, and Emily Osment among its cast.

Netflix’s official listing gives the series a TV-Y7 rating and lists two seasons. Tudum provides more character context: Barney is a transgender teenager voiced by transgender actor Zach Barack, while Barney and Norma work at the haunted park and confront supernatural threats. The story also addresses Barney’s family struggling to accept his transition.
The TV-Y7 classification places the show within Netflix’s children’s and family-oriented rating system. It does not prove that the series was designed to pursue a particular political objective, nor does a rating alone establish what effect the show has on children. Those questions require separating the observable facts—the rating, the character, and the story—from the motives critics assign to them.
How Charlie Kirk entered the boycott campaign
The Netflix criticism became more politically charged when critics connected Steele to remarks about Charlie Kirk’s death. The dispute centered on screenshots or descriptions of a response attributed to Steele concerning a post by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer mourning Kirk.
