The BBC removed the 2006 Doctor Who episode “Fear Her” from BBC iPlayer in August 2024 after Huw Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. Edwards had a voice cameo as himself in a fictional news report in the episode. The Independent reported that the episode returned to iPlayer on February 13, 2025, with his contribution redubbed by actor Becky Wright. Its current availability in 2026 has not been verified.
Why was “Fear Her” removed from BBC iPlayer?
“Fear Her” was removed in August 2024, after Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children. In the episode, Edwards’s voice appeared in a fictional BBC news report during the Olympic torch ceremony sequence. Gizmodo reported the removal and described the cameo as commentary heard from a laptop in a character’s bedroom: Gizmodo’s August 2, 2024 report.
What was changed when the episode returned?
The Independent reported on February 13, 2025, that “Fear Her” had returned to iPlayer after being unavailable for months. Edwards’s news clips and commentary were redubbed, with actor Becky Wright providing the replacement voiceover. The restored version displayed a notice explaining that the programme had been edited since broadcast: The Independent’s report on the return.
The notice said: “This programme has been edited since broadcast. There are a number of reasons why a programme may have been edited including legal, contractual or technical issues.” The Independent also reported the replacement commentary, which describes the Olympic ceremony and people disappearing and reappearing.

Which Doctor Who episode is it?
“Fear Her” is a 2006 episode from David Tennant’s time as the Tenth Doctor, with Billie Piper as Rose Tyler. Set around the London 2012 Olympics, it follows Chloe Webber, a girl whose drawings make people disappear. Edwards’s contribution was a voice cameo as himself in a fictional news report, rather than an on-screen appearance. Is “Fear Her” currently on BBC iPlayer?
The dated reporting establishes that the episode was reported back on iPlayer on February 13, 2025. It does not establish whether it remains playable in 2026, or whether it is available outside the UK. BBC iPlayer could not be accessed to confirm a current listing, so check the service directly for present availability. What did the BBC say about keeping archive programmes?
LBC quoted a BBC spokesperson saying: “While we don’t routinely delete content from the BBC archive as it is a matter of historical record, we do consider the continued use and re-use of material on a case-by-case basis.” This was a statement quoted by LBC, not a standalone published BBC policy document: LBC’s February 13, 2025 report.
