In a preseason interview published July 17, 2024, the 16 houseguests of Big Brother Season 26 explained the edge they believed could carry them to the $750,000 prize. Their answers ranged from social skill and competition strength to strategic awareness, resilience and outright bravado. These were contestants’ own pitches before the season began—not evidence that any of them was favored to win.
Why did the Big Brother 26 cast think they could win?
The remarks below come from Dalton Ross’s Entertainment Weekly interview, republished by Yahoo before the season premiere. The contestants described their perceived strengths in their own words; the interview did not measure their abilities or predict the outcome.
Social play and competition strength
- Cedric Hodges expected his social ability to be his main asset, while saying he would win competitions when he could. He also thought other players might underestimate him: “I’ll win just because of my social ability, I’ll win comps when I can.”
- Chelsie Baham paired people skills with athleticism: “I’m good with people, and I’m an athlete. You mix those two together, cut me the check, BB26 — I’m ready to go.”
- Matt Hardeman described himself as “the perfect balance of the physical competitor, but also the social one too.”
- Makensy Manbeck called herself a “triple threat,” pointing to her “social game, mental game, and physical” ability.
- Cam Sullivan-Brown named “my smile” and “my charm” as reasons he could win.
Reading people and managing threat
- T’kor Clottey said she could observe other players, understand what they wanted and use that information strategically: “I know how to watch out for people. I know what people want and I know how to use that information to my advantage.”
- Joseph Rodriguez argued that being balanced across categories—and not standing out too strongly in any one—could help: “I’m well balanced in every category, and don’t come off too strongly in any of them.”
- Angela Murray made a case for experience in a few words: “With age comes wisdom.”
Resilience, nerve and confidence
- Brooklyn Rivera emphasized persistence: “I’m resilient and I don’t do anything half-ass. All ass, all forward. I’m winning.”
- Tucker Des Lauriers promised not to back down, describing himself as willing to do what the game required: “I will never back down, and I will stab anybody in the back with whatever I can find.”
- Quinn Martin used an image of entertaining chaos to describe his potential: “a car crash of everything it takes to win.”
- Kimo Apaka expressed certainty about taking the prize, without offering a longer strategic explanation.
- Lisa Weintraub summed up her pitch as “Boss babe vibes.”
- Kenney Kelley appealed to the value of older players in the house.
- Leah Peters pointed to her lucky number, 26.
- Rubina Bernabe framed her ambition as a shared effort and representation: “I’m doing it for the Filipinos, baby. Us. You and me. We’re in this together.”
What happened after these preseason predictions?
The interview captures confidence before play began, not a record of how each player performed. CBS’s official Season 26 episode archive lists the Head of Household and Power of Veto competitions and the AI Arena twist. In the early AI Arena format, three houseguests competed for safety, changing which two remained vulnerable to eviction.
CBS dates the finale October 13, 2024, and identifies Cam Sullivan-Brown, Makensy Manbeck and Chelsie Baham as the final three. The listing says the jury would decide the winner of the $750,000 grand prize; that listing does not name the winner. The official Paramount+ Season 26 page provides an episode-viewing route, but availability can vary by country and is not established here.

What the cast’s answers have in common
Social skill and competition ability recur in several pitches, especially those from Cedric, Chelsie, Matt and Makensy. Others emphasized information, balance or persistence. That variety makes the interview a snapshot of how the houseguests understood their own prospective games; judging which claims translated into results requires evidence beyond the Q&A.
