Season 33, Episode 3 of Dancing With the Stars did not air on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. ABC moved the episode to the following week to make room for the vice-presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance. The episode, “Soul Train Night,” aired Monday, October 7, 2024, and Episode 4, “Hair Metal Night,” followed on Tuesday, October 8.
If you searched for this title because the episode was missing from your schedule, the gap was a one-week delay, not a cancellation. The events described here took place in fall 2024. This article does not establish the broadcast schedule for any later season.

What happened on October 1, 2024
Contemporaneous reporting from Forbes, published on October 1, 2024, said no new episode would air that Tuesday. The preemption was tied to the vice-presidential debate. Forbes reported that ABC shifted the planned episode to the next week. ComingSoon reported the same interruption from the debate. Both outlets attributed the schedule change to the debate; neither reported a verbatim ABC explanation.
That distinction matters. The reason for the move is well documented in press coverage, but the coverage available for this article does not include an official ABC announcement that names the debate as the cause. Treat the debate as the reported reason, not as a quoted network statement. No named ABC executive’s comment on the move has been identified.

How the schedule changed
The table below lists the Season 33 dates reported in ABC and Forbes coverage from 2024.
| Date (2024) | What aired | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tuesday, September 17 | Season 33 premiere | Scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on ABC, per ABC News |
| Tuesday, September 24 | Regular episode | ABC described the votes received for this episode as the most in the show’s history for a single episode |
| Tuesday, October 1 | No episode | Preempted for the vice-presidential debate between Tim Walz and JD Vance, per Forbes and ComingSoon |
| Monday, October 7 | Episode 3, “Soul Train Night” | The episode originally planned for October 1 |
| Tuesday, October 8 | Episode 4, “Hair Metal Night” | Aired the following night |
The practical effect was a shift rather than a skipped episode. Viewers who waited a week saw Episode 3 before Episode 4, so the running order was not changed.
