Dakota Johnson was talking about her time on set—not calling The Office finale the show’s worst episode. In a 2024 interview, she said she expected to spend about half a day filming her small guest role, but was there for two weeks and was barely in the episode.
What Dakota Johnson meant by “the worst”
Johnson discussed the experience during a February 7, 2024, appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. She said she loved The Office and eagerly accepted an invitation to appear in its series finale, expecting a brief visit. Instead, she recalled, the commitment lasted two weeks. Her description of the experience was: “That was honestly the worst time of my life.” TV Insider and TheWrap reported her remarks in February 2024.
The line was about Johnson’s own filming experience. It was not a verdict on the episode’s quality.
Why the shoot felt frustrating to her
Johnson said she had expected to be on set for roughly half a day but spent two weeks there, despite having little to do on camera. She described herself as mostly in the background, faxing, and said she was barely in the show.

She also recalled an uncomfortable atmosphere. According to Johnson, the cast was sad the series was ending, but there were “weird dynamics,” some people did not speak to one another, and no one wanted to talk to her. Those are her impressions of the set; the available reports do not independently establish the interpersonal dynamics or identify the people involved.
Johnson’s character in the finale
Johnson played a new accountant named Dakota, hired to replace Kevin. TV Insider describes the part as small: her character speaks in two scenes and appears in the background through much of the episode, including while faxing and interacting with Clark. The episode is the 2013 series finale. TV Insider’s account details the role.
