The short answer is that Bluey’s creator, Joe Brumm, has stepped back from the television series for now. In his own words, he did not feel he could make a potential fourth season as good as the previous one, and he was finding it hard to write authentically from the perspective of four-to-six-year-olds. He has turned his focus to a feature film scheduled for cinemas on August 6, 2027. As of October 8, 2026, no Season 4 release date and no production confirmation appear in official Bluey announcements, and Brumm has said plainly that stepping back is not the same as ending the show.
What Joe Brumm actually said
The clearest explanation comes from a letter Brumm published on the official Bluey website, “A Letter from Joe Brumm”, which accompanied the film announcement. He wrote:
“This would have been the case for me with a potential season four, so I’ve decided to take a break from my involvement in the TV series.” — Joe Brumm, creator of Bluey.
Two points in that letter matter for anyone waiting on the show. The first is the reason he gives: a fourth season would have been a point at which he did not feel he could match the standard of the season before it, and he was struggling to write convincingly for the four-to-six-year-old viewpoint that gives the series its voice. The second is what he deliberately did not say. He added:

Those quotes are Brumm’s personal decision and clarification. They are not a studio statement about what happens to the series next, and no official source in the public record gives a schedule for what comes after.

Why the wait is happening
The explanation that the evidence supports is a creative one, not a logistical one. Brumm stepped back because he was not confident he could make another season at the level he wanted, and because writing from a young child’s perspective had become difficult for him. The move toward a film came alongside that decision rather than being presented as a scheduling plan.
The film’s longer format is part of the context. In the film announcement, Brumm said he had enjoyed working in a longer format on The Sign, and that a feature film felt like a natural extension of the show. That explains his enthusiasm for the movie. It does not establish that a fourth season was formally paused to make room for it.

Several things are not supported by the official material and should not be treated as fact:
- That the studio is waiting for the film to finish before deciding on another season.
- That a new showrunner or lead writer has been chosen for a fourth season.
- That Season 4 will arrive in any particular year, or that it is in production.
Audience size does not explain the gap either. Disney has cited Nielsen figures showing more than 50.5 billion U.S. streaming minutes for Bluey from January 1 through November 24, 2024, in its December 17, 2024 announcement, and Disney+ Press later cited 45.2 billion U.S. streaming minutes for 2025 based on Nielsen CY25 data (December 30, 2024 through December 28, 2025) in its March 12, 2026 release. These numbers show how widely the show is watched. They say nothing about production timing.

- Season 4 status: No production confirmation or release date appears in official Bluey announcements published through October 8, 2026.
- The series’ future: Brumm has said the show is not ending, but he has not described what a return would look like.
- The film: Scheduled for cinemas on August 6, 2027. It is a feature film, not a fourth season, and it is written and directed by Brumm.

How to tell when a fourth season is real
Because the official record is quiet on Season 4, a few signals are worth checking before accepting any headline:
- An announcement on the official Bluey website, which is where Brumm published his letter.
- A release from BBC Studios, which co-produces the show and the film.
- A Disney+ Press announcement, which has been the source for streaming-title news.
Claims that a season has been “confirmed” by a fan site, a social post or a rumour aggregator should be checked against these channels. Until one of them names a production status or a release window, the honest answer is that the timing is not yet public.
