A 24/7 broadcast is not, by itself, a documented reason that YouTube disables gifted channel memberships. YouTube’s published help explains gifting on eligible live streams and Premieres, but does not state that continuous streams are barred. Check that you are looking at channel membership gifts—not the separate Jewels feature—and then work through channel eligibility, gifting settings, live chat, recipient opt-in, and any country-verification error.
First, identify which kind of “gift” is missing
Gifted channel memberships are one-month access to a channel’s membership perks, purchased by a viewer in live chat during a live stream or Premiere when the creator has gifting enabled. YouTube does not document a general 24/7-stream restriction for this feature. YouTube’s gift-membership help describes the feature and recipient conditions.
YouTube also has a separate Jewels and virtual-items Gifts feature. Its availability and eligibility rules are not the same as channel membership gifting. India appearing in information about virtual-item availability does not establish that every channel can offer membership gifts there—or explain a missing membership-gift option. If the label you see is “Gifts” or “Jewels,” use the virtual-items rules rather than assuming the membership-gifting rules apply. YouTube’s virtual-items information covers that separate feature.
Check the creator-side requirements
- Confirm memberships are available to the channel. YouTube says the Memberships tab appears only for eligible channels. Review the channel’s membership eligibility and setup requirements in YouTube Studio.
- Turn on memberships and gifting. If eligible, the creator must activate memberships and accept YouTube’s Commerce Product Module. Check the gifting controls for the channel; a viewer cannot buy gifts where gifting is not enabled.
- Check monetization and policy status. If memberships are in paused mode, the Join button disappears. Review Studio notifications and channel status for an unresolved eligibility or policy issue.
Check the livestream and the viewer’s account
Live chat must be available
Membership gifting is a live-chat purchase, so confirm live chat is enabled and functioning on the stream. If you are actually troubleshooting Jewels/virtual-item Gifts, YouTube lists additional conditions for that feature: an age-restricted, unlisted or private stream, a Made for Kids stream, a YouTube Giving fundraiser, or disabled live chat/comments can make the stream ineligible. Do not treat that list as a complete rulebook for channel membership gifts.

The intended recipient must qualify
Recipients have to opt in to receive gifted memberships. YouTube specifies that they must be signed in to a non-Brand Account, subscribe to the channel, and have recently interacted with it. Existing members of that channel are not currently eligible to receive a gifted membership. If the buyer sees no eligible recipients, these recipient conditions may be relevant even when gifting is enabled. YouTube’s gift-membership instructions explain opt-in and recipient eligibility.
If YouTube reports that it cannot verify your country
A country-verification error can keep gifting options from appearing. YouTube’s billing guidance recommends trying another network or device and turning off a VPN or proxy. For India, YouTube also says RBI eMandate requirements may require payment details to be verified or re-entered to maintain recurring channel memberships. That is guidance about recurring membership billing; it is not evidence of a blanket Indian ban on purchasing or receiving gifted memberships. See YouTube’s country-verification and billing help.

- Retry on a different network or device.
- Disable any VPN or proxy, then try again.
- If the issue concerns an existing recurring membership in India, follow YouTube’s prompt to verify or re-enter payment details.
- Note the exact error and whether the missing option affects one viewer, all viewers, or only one stream; those details help distinguish a billing or account issue from channel settings.
A 24/7 stream’s archive limit is a separate issue
YouTube may automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” This is an archive limitation, not published evidence that gifting is disabled while the broadcast is live. Do not use an absent replay as proof that a long-running stream cannot offer gifts. YouTube’s live-stream archiving help describes the capture limitation.
Work through the checks in this order
- Read the exact label: channel membership gift, or Jewels/virtual-item Gift?
- Ask the creator to confirm channel eligibility, active memberships, gifting enabled, and no paused membership status in Studio.
- Confirm the stream has live chat enabled and is a live stream or Premiere.
- For a recipient issue, check opt-in, signed-in non-Brand Account status, subscription and recent interaction; an existing member cannot receive another gift.
- If a country-verification error appears, retry without a VPN/proxy on another network or device. Apply India’s eMandate guidance only when the issue is recurring-membership billing.
- Keep archive capture separate from live gifting: a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be saved, but YouTube does not cite that as a gifting restriction.
What to do if the option is still missing
There is no single account-specific cause established without the channel’s eligibility status, the exact product name, stream settings, and error message. Compare the same channel on another eligible live stream or Premiere, and ask the creator to verify gifting and membership status in Studio. If only your account is affected, check opt-in and recipient qualifications; if viewers broadly cannot buy gifts, focus first on the channel feature, live chat, and any verification error shown by YouTube.
