If you mean May 6, 2026, American Idol is not scheduled for that night: May 6 is a Wednesday, while the show’s announced live ABC slot is Monday at 8 p.m. The next listed broadcast is the season finale on Monday, May 11, from 8 to 11 p.m. EDT. The schedule sources do not identify a specific May 6 preemption or explain the absence as a cancellation or delay.
Why isn’t American Idol on May 6?
The year matters because May 6 falls on a different weekday from year to year. The official schedule information available for this answer is for the 2026 season: May 6, 2026, falls on a Wednesday, but Disney lists the live ABC broadcast on Mondays at 8 p.m. [ABC; Disney]

That regular schedule explains why a Wednesday airing is not listed, but it does not establish that ABC specifically preempted, pulled, or delayed an episode on May 6. If you mean May 6 in another year, this 2026 schedule does not confirm that season’s programming.
When does American Idol return?
ABC lists the next broadcast as the Season 9 finale on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 8 to 11 p.m. EDT. The listing says the winner will be revealed live. [ABC’s May 2026 schedule]
