The comparison is accurate as a description of visual and character influence. It does not show that her whole persona was copied from Harley Quinn, and the available sources do not establish who first coined the nickname.
Where the look came from
Contemporary coverage identified the outfit Bliss wore at Backlash in 2016 as Harley Quinn from Suicide Squad. Sky Sports reported this on October 6, 2016. The look was not a vague nod to a comic-book style. It was a recognizable costume taken from a specific film character.
Bliss explained the choice in an interview excerpt from Cleveland.com, republished by Wrestling Inc. on October 2, 2016. She said she wanted a Harley Quinn-inspired outfit and that Buddy Murphy helped her develop the concept. She also described herself as a fan of the character and of characters in general:
“I am a Harley Quinn fan. I am a big fan of characters in general.”

Her point was about personal taste, not a formal branding decision. The outfit reflected what she liked to play, and her NXT-era character themes had already shown the same interest.
How she described the decision in 2017
In a Yahoo Sports interview published March 16, 2017, Bliss was asked about gear inspired by Harley Quinn, the Riddler, and other Batman villains. She described herself as a villain fan who enjoys fictional characters and cosplay. Her summary of her approach was simple:
Rank #3
- Get the WWE action going with this approximately 6-inch figure in "Superstar scale."
- Rereate favorite matches, pose in a menacing stance and pair with another figure to battle it out!
- Add multiple figures (each sold separately, subject to availability) to create total mayhem.
- With articulation, authentic ring gear and Superstar details, this figure comes alive!
- Collect them all and let the WWE mayhem begin!
“I just like portraying characters but making it my own.”
She also explained the risk she took with the Harley Quinn look. Bliss said she had worried that she might not be able to keep using character-themed gear after leaving NXT. She decided to try the Harley Quinn concept anyway, and in her words:
Rank #4
- Have twice the slammin' good time with the WWE Battle Pack!
- Celebrating a range of WWE Universe's key rivalries and champions, these personality packs are no-holds barred and dynamic!
- WWE Battle Pack includes two approximately 6-inch figures.

“I kind of ran with the Harley Quinn thing, I said I was going to try it anyway and say sorry after [if it didn’t work], but it got a great response and that gave me the freedom to do more.”
That account shows the outfit was a test that paid off. It is the main reason the Harley Quinn association lasted beyond a single night.

What WWE has said about the connection
WWE’s official video page carries the title “Alexa Bliss and Margot Robbie share their love for Harley Quinn.” The page establishes that WWE itself highlighted the link between Bliss and the character. Its accessible text does not add detail about what was said, and it does not show that “The Harley Quinn of WWE” is an official title. Treat the nickname as commentary that fans and outlets adopted, not as a WWE designation.
What the nickname does and does not establish
The nickname works as a shorthand for a documented fact: Bliss has openly shared her affection for Harley Quinn and has worn Harley Quinn-inspired gear. The sources support that much. They do not support three stronger readings:
- That WWE officially assigned the phrase to her.
- That the phrase originated with a named person or outlet. The sources reviewed do not identify its first use.
- That her wrestling persona is essentially a copy of Harley Quinn. Bliss described the character as one of several influences and said she likes making fictional characters her own.
The evidence is also dated. The interviews and coverage are from 2016 and 2017, so they describe the gear and reasoning of that period. They do not establish what Bliss wears or how she describes her influences today.
Visual, character and scope compared
The comparison holds up differently depending on which kind of influence is being discussed. The table separates the three main ways the Harley Quinn link can be read.

| Influence type | What the sources support | Main source |
|---|---|---|
| Visual (the ring outfit) | Supported. She wore a Harley Quinn-inspired outfit, reported at Backlash in 2016, with Buddy Murphy helping develop it. | Sky Sports, October 6, 2016; Cleveland.com excerpt via Wrestling Inc., October 2, 2016 |
| Character (villain presentation) | Supported. Bliss said she loves being a villain and is a fan of the character. | Cleveland.com excerpt via Wrestling Inc., October 2, 2016 |
| Scope (whole persona) | Not supported. She described Harley Quinn as one inspiration among several and emphasized making characters her own. | Yahoo Sports, March 16, 2017 |
| Origin of the nickname | Not stated. No source reviewed identifies who first used “The Harley Quinn of WWE” or whether WWE assigned it. | WWE video page establishes only WWE’s own framing |
For most readers, the accurate version is this: Bliss wore a Harley Quinn-inspired look, enjoys villain characters, and used the success of that look to take more creative risks with her gear. The nickname is a fair summary of the visual and character link. It goes too far when it is read as a full claim about her persona or an official WWE label.
